Re: INDIA

It’s nonsense because it ignores two things. Firstly that people who live somewhere will have their own biases and blind spots. And secondly that people who live elsewhere can have opinions that are...

Re: INDIA

Ah so we’re back to the “never lived there” nonsense.

What I do dislike is the impossibility of having a rational discussion on India on this forum due to your overweening defensiveness when...

Re: INDIA

Why do you assume that people that hold different opinions on India to you “dislike India and its people so much”?

Re: INDIA

I'll file this one along with Putin's "it's not a war; it's a special operation"

Europe is reducing its purchases of Russian oil as quickly as it can. India has doubled its purchases. Strange...

Re: INDIA

Oh... just one post before you posted this, Bipat was trying to have us believe that this was about "trade agreements made with Russia decades ago". Really, I can't see why anything that Bipat posts...

Re: INDIA

I see India imports a lot of fertilizer. If Modi continues on his path towards pariah country status, it might not end well for him.

Re: Climate change.

I think it's more a case of nimbyism at all costs winning.

Re: INDIA

So unfair of the son and daughter-in-law not to produce a grandchild for his parents’ benefit. Especially as the parents went to all the trouble of arranging their marriage:

Re: Travel Insurance for Visiting Elderly Parents

I will be on my own at that point on the trip so I could isolate in a hotel room. Would I? Probably not at this point, especially as it's not required. I certainly would be as careful as when I...

Re: Travel Insurance for Visiting Elderly Parents

I’m not buying travel insurance per se. I did buy a yearly medical evacuation policy before my January hiking trip to Mexico. That, as I alluded to, would medically evacuate me back to San Francisco....

Re: Off topic Political Posts moved from Coronavirus thread

For 2021, so in a year when vaccines became widely available. The difference in death rates between Trump supporting and Biden supporting counties is both remarkable and predictable.

Re: Travel Insurance for Visiting Elderly Parents

I don't know about UK policies, but many US policies will medically evacuate you only to the nearest "suitable" hospital, usually in the country you're visiting. Well worth looking closely at the...

Re: 15 year rule goes

As in persistently breaking the TOS, for multiple years in a couple of cases. Not sure how allowing people like them to continue to ignore the TOS would have improved the standard of discussion here.

Re: CORONAVIRUS PART II

Approval was sought specifically to market and sell Thalidomide to pregnant women who had morning sickness. As such asking for evidence that said drug didn’t adversely effect fetuses seems like it...

Re: CORONAVIRUS PART II

The counter argument is actually that the US FDA didn’t approve thalidomide back then because of a UK study that showed a connection to a nerve problem and lack of evidence that it didn’t affect...

Re: Tories in chaos

Indian refiners are negotiating long term contracts for Russian oil to secure discounts in excess of what they’re getting on the spot market.

Re: Tories in chaos

It's obfuscation to harp on about India having small imports from Russia. At a time when it is trying both to import as much more as it can from the spot market and negotiate long term contracts with...

Re: Tories in chaos

No amount of obfuscation on your part is going to remove the stain on India of it increasing oil imports from Russia.

Re: Tories in chaos

Pretty sad behavior by India to increase its oil exports from Russia to take advantage of the price differential between Russian and non-Russian oil. I doubt the west is going to rush to support...

Re: CORONAVIRUS PART II

In the US 90% of over 65s are fully vaccinated and you’re 10 times more likely to die if not vaccinated than if vaccinated. With 54m over 65s that leaves at least 5m vulnerable people even with that...

Re: Let's talk about cars
