Re: Post EU Referendum...Part II

Where do you think the British fishermen are going to sell their catch? - the UK isn't a great consumer of seafood.... and what about those in the EU who bought UK quota?
Whatever the reason for the...

Re: Post EU Referendum...Part II

The EU is based on certain associated "pillars" - for example the concept of free movement of labour hand in hand with free movement of capital..... if separated then there is danger of production at...

Re: Email for camaras

Google translate is Brazilian...... try DEEPL (https://www.deepl.com/translator) for translation - it isn't perfect but it gives you a choice of Brazilian OR Portuguese.

To see how different this...

Re: Fat and fitness

Tell that to those with thyroid issues. My BiL had an overactive thyroid, would polish off a packet of biscuits at a sitting, yet stayed rake-thin. My sister ate less than him - and no biscuits - yet...

Re: Stayaway Covid

I'm not surprised......memories of the Estado Novo and the PIDE take a long time to fade (even if the memories are from their grandparents!!)

It will probably be the same in the old Eastern Bloc...

Re: moving to Portugal - registering residency straightaway?

My cousin from LA learned his Spanish from the guys working for his father (a racehorse trainer) and was comfortable conversing in it, without ever having lessons. Then he was posted to Europe.......

Re: Stayaway Covid

I found the app easily enough without switching accounts, just by searching the name in Google Play. It downloaded and opened without issue.

Re: A Food thread

It's "real". No sauces or spices to disguise poor-quality ingredients.
The best of fish is barbecued with a sprinkle of pure sea salt and tastes divine. Seafood is almost a religion. The oven is not...

Re: Fat and fitness

It beggars belief that someone is too dumb to realise that individual situations differ. How dare you suggest you know my life better than me?
My diet (and by that I mean the quality and amount of...

Re: Fat and fitness

I disagree absolutely, changes to my diet were minimal..... certainly not a "diet", just thinking twice about snacking. However, "excess" is when you eat more than you expend, so the equation works...

Re: Fat and fitness

I shocked myself at the weight I'd put on during lockdown (not the heaviest I've ever been, but heavier than I want to be). I have seen a 12kg variation in my weight since my operation and have...

Re: George Floyd

So "the officer saw no other option", but there were other officers there. With that number of officers, how is it that not one of them thought to prevent Jacob Blake from opening his car door? I'm...

Re: moving to Portugal - registering residency straightaway?

That's not unusual.....there are familiar sounds. It's worse when they are speaking English.

In hospital in the UK, one of my nurses was an alfacinha, so we chatted away happily. There was an...

Re: moving to Portugal - registering residency straightaway?

The grammatical differences are largely due to the exterior influences on Brazilian and immigration from non-Portuguese speakers, much as the vocabulary often differs due to insular development and...

Re: moving to Portugal - registering residency straightaway?

That reminds me of my first ever trip to Rome. I was with 2 friends and between us we spoke French, Castillian and German but no Italian. We had already discovered the fallacy of "fluency" when my...

Re: moving to Portugal - registering residency straightaway?

My experience, in the hills of Andalucia, is that speaking Castillian is useful, but doesn't help when those spreaking back to you use their own dialect. In Portugal, the language is more...

Yes, the varying approach to such tracker systems reduces the effectiveness.... but there can be interoperability between some (which is why NI rolled out a different system to the UK one, but a...

Re: RAY’S 2020 OBIT THREAD

Re: RYANAIR REFUNDS

I'm glad to hear that Ryanair is finally getting on top of things....... however, I think they got a lot of bad press for their inaction early on.

I prefer to fly Jet2, but am flying on Ryanair...
