Re: car reliability

I took the simple route and lease from Budget, I just like the convenience. Talking to friends who have bought, if you're not fussy on colour and are happy with last years model then you can get a...

If you were going to Dubai, for sure buy a BMW. As you're coming to Riyadh, personally I wouldn't, buy an SUV...Toyota or Hyundai. Just gives you better vision, more presence on the road and frankly...

Re: Cost of renting in KAEC.

KAEC...King Abdulaziz Economic City, up the coast from Jeddah.
No idea, about the cost of rent there but assuming you're talking local rents and not compound rents then in Jeddah 5-6,000 SAR a month...

Re: Just arrives in Jeddah

I've clearly been here too long, it tends to be the only yardstick by which I measure any expat event.

Re: Just arrives in Jeddah

Re: If you need advice on moving to Saudi Arabia....

OSN is the satellite tv provider for the region. Pretty good, not censored and very similar to Sky, if you want live premiership you'll also need a subscription to Bien sports.

Re: If you need advice on moving to Saudi Arabia....

Buraydah is the most conservative city in KSA, a mate got pulled for having his car radio on during prayer time. But, the place is what you make it and if you've got colleagues in the same compound...

Re: If you need advice on moving to Saudi Arabia....

As above, it certainly wouldn't be my first choice. Hopefully a buzzing compound and a fat pay packet.

Re: Dubai...where to live?

I never really doubted it. In way of mitigation for my bad temper this is now my 10th week in Jeddah without escaping and generally my mood can be charted like some form of exponential curve of weeks...

Thanks for the advice, I had been having a look at what's available in Mirdif and it looks favourite, I'll have a quick scan and Silicon Oasis too.

As for location, well...

Re: Dubai...where to live?
