Re: Is it true that 70% of Americans don't have passports?

Re: Cell phone in US going to UK

I have a USA "Skype In" phone number that rings on my mobile just as if it was a phone call. You can get that (or Google Fi) and forward your existing number to the new number.

Re: Will my child need to file taxes in US when old enough

It's highly unlikely she will be called, especially if not resident, and even if she was called she would get an exemption being overseas (i.e. Canada). However, US citizens are required to serve if...

Re: Will my child need to file taxes in US when old enough

Basically a few points on being a US Citizen overseas:

1) Taxes, as noted.
2) FBAR, as noted
3) FATCA, which is a real pain but might not be an issue.
4) Military...

Re: Will my child need to file taxes in US when old enough

One point worth noting is that "age 18" is not the determining factor for whether you have to file taxes. "Income" is the determining factor. Does she have income (jobs, dividends, capital gains,...

Re: Using Amazon UK in US

Sometimes bookdepository.com is cheaper than Amazon UK (which is kind of odd as bookdepository was bought by Amazon).

Anyone thinking of leaving HK because of the situation?

I mean, no is probably the first answer. But I was wondering if those in HK have had pause to think about heading elsewhere? Long term would you still be investing in HK given what's gone on the last...

Re: Help and experiences: would my beloved start from zero?

While the job market is always pretty good in NYC, a foreign-trained, LLM-bar entrance lawyer will have a much tougher time given subtle biases against foreign-trained lawyers that exist in the...

Re: We want to move to Sarasota

Hi,

Please don't take our talk about a visa too negatively. We constantly encounter posters who want to come to the USA and haven't even thought out the visa situation, or been misled by...

Re: Help and experiences: would my beloved start from zero?

Hi,

Not to be too much of a bummer, but you can easily blow through a salary of $120,000 in NY city, especially with a family. I'm a little concerned about her ability to work as some of the visas...

Are there tax consequences of making a bank transfer? No. Just transferring money doesn't cause tax liability.
Will a large bank transfer trigger money laundering...
