Im pretty sure ATO looks at where you are physically for the majority of the year. So if you are in Aus most of the year you will be regarded as an Aus Tax Resident. There are double tax agreements....

It is harder in NZ (and to some extent Aus), because the locals often meet up at home so its hard to get to know people. Also work colleagues do not go out that much, often having to drive back home...

Most of the big banks (ANZ/ Westpac/ ASB) are happy to offer you a credit card on the back of a secure job straight away. I think you can apply for a CC as part of applying for a migrant bank account...

So low end would be 2 weeks plus $5,000...

Those areas are miles away. One of the attractions for me about Brisbane is that you dont have to live an hour away from the CBD to be affordable.
