Hi Neil , don't think the book is issued anymore , plenty of mock tests on the CIC website for reference instead, so I'm led to believe .

HGV licences aren't valid here so maybe he saw you as just another cash cow , not meant as an insult , it's the way those parasites work . Can guarantee he has set up absolutely sfa in the Maritimes...

That's what I did Jim , made appointments during a vacation and it worked well , then went down a totally different route , hindsight etc but no regrets .

A lot depends on what sort of trucking you wish to continue with , regards long/short/regional haul versus family time and enjoying the country for what it is .
