We have talk it up, last month without the talk it up plan ($40) our phone bill just for calls would have been over $350. For us Talk it up is worth every cent, and it's not hard to use $40 worth.

Also bear in mind that if you don't have jobs to come to, you need to live off of your savings till work is found.

This is what we had to do, and cost for 2 adults 1 dog 2 cats and 20ft container...

The date yopu entered NZ should be checked, some of the people in the aa shops and else where don't but they should, as it is entered into the NZ LTA database.
There is no penalty for converting...

We didn't have travel insurance for one way trip, completely over looked it. It was a bit silly really, as I belive it is illegal to travel out of UK without it, however I could be wrong on that...

I done the same - however most bachs where a little to pricey for us so I had a private room in a backpackers / hostel for 2 weeks, although that was just me without the wife and no kids.
