Re: Is it even worth going back?

We left in 2008, just before the economic crash, and things don't seem to have improved much since then. Similarly, the thought of moving is at times exciting - being closer to the (grown up) kids...

Re: Saudi Interview

Package looks pretty standard for KSA, in terms of what is included. The amounts may differ depending on role and seniority.

Of the compounds you've mentioned, I'd go for Wadi Qurtoba , though...

Re: Buy to Let Property in UK- Seeking help from Family Memeber for Deposit

From my own very limited knowledge, I would imagine any lender will want to know the source of these funds, if you declare that the funds are being added to by a third party ( your sister ) . There...

Re: Current Riyadh Compound asking prices vs negotiated prices

No worries. We visited in December, and at that time , it only had 10% occupancy. It's a big place, I think 6-700 units, so will take some time to generate a community feel, but they did say they...

Re: Current Riyadh Compound asking prices vs negotiated prices

The new one not far from Al Nakla is called Wadi Qurtoba. Had a quick look around a few months ago, a two bed apartment was 150k. Very nice standard. Out of the ones we looked at, they were the most...

Re: When do you know your time is up?

Back in 2017, my contract wasn't renewed. Was paid up until Sept. Made arrangements for Final Exit in late October. Had a few job applications in and one in particular looked promising, so took a...

Re: Saudi offer

A lot of variables on Education Fees. Most of the companies that I know of who still pay it, do not link it to Basic, it is a flat rate fee. This tends to be ball park around 20-25k SR per child per...

Re: Saudi offer

So that's the Basic, right? I'm assuming that in addition to Basic, you will also be offered a standard Saudi contract, which includes a Housing Allowance ( usually 25% of Basic ) and also a...

Re: WC2022 expansion?

I think 2026 has gone to 48 teams already. Personally, I think that's too big. Reduces the overall quality of qualifying teams. FIFA just seem interested in making as much money as possible, One way,...

Re: for the remaining smokers out there

Just a word of caution with Champix - it can do strange things to people.

Re: for the remaining smokers out there

I started vaping in Aug 2013, not gone back to analogues since then. Have tried it once or twice, but find the taste ( and smell ) quite awful. Glad you found something that works for you.

Re: VPN recommendations

I had been using VPNUK which worked quite well, but recently have had trouble getting BBC iPlayer and other UK based geo locked services, so perhaps it's not quite as good as it used to be.

I...

Re: New member saying hello :)

I would imagine you have two options:
1 - Once you set up your Omani Bank Account - you should be able to use the bank to transfer into a UK account directly into Sterling. This is perhaps the...

Re: Drive from UAE to Jordan ?

Not seen any ferry routes from Alex to mainland Europe. Can go from Alex to Tripoli in Lebanon, and then from there to Mercin, Turkey. Also, no inclination to visit Egypt - would rather go through...

Re: Drive from UAE to Jordan ?

Update: made contact with The Adventurists / Mongolian Rally Club on Facebook to ask the question. First ( and only, so far ) response was that I would deffo need a guide through Iran. Back to square...

Re: Drive from UAE to Jordan ?

Aye, it does look a fascinating place to visit, as well as spectacular landscapes. Also would love to drive through northern Turkey - once through Iran - , that also looks like some pretty impressive...

Re: Expat Contract Negotiations for Saudi Arabia

Just go into it with eyes full open and get a specific figure on each element.
For example, we offer an Education Allowance - but this is only 20k SR for one child per year. Maximum of three...

Re: Drive from UAE to Jordan ?

All the 'official' documentation I've looked at so far, is pretty consistent. For three nationalities - US, Canadian, UK - every visitor must be accompanied by a tour guide at all times. Spoke to a...

Re: Has anyone used Haraj.com.sa to buy a car in Saudi?

If you see a car on Haraj that you're really interested in, best to ring the number ( if available ) and arrange to go view it. But, as you're off down to the Auctions, the prices on Haraj will give...

Re: South African Iqama holder travelling to Bahrain via causeway?

Always wise to check in advance of travel. I always thought it depended on one's nationality - not iqama - as passport will have to be presented at the Causeway anyway as you cross over.

One...
