If contributing to US SS for under 30 years then we lose a part of US SS pension just because we have also contributed elsewhere.

No, it's not fair. I paid into US SS so I should get my due...

WEP = Windfall Elimination Provision

The windfall being the pension you get from employment that did not contribute to US SS.
So because you did not pay US SS on the salary that provided the...

The calculator seems the best way to predict the effect of WEP.

There are limits to maximum that can be deducted by WEP although defining the limits is rather a challenge open to interpretation,...

When WEP is applied it is on any pension from anywhere that was built from a salary that did not contribute to US SS.

So your UK teachers pension will be considered as non-US SS contributing and...

Scuse me butting in here but I read the 50% rule differently than I think you are stating; I read it that the US SS can be WEP'd by up to 50% of the non-covered pension, not 50% max of the US SS. ...

lol, I wish. (I don't really, I enjoy the challenges) Maybe is simpler for some who spent their working life in one job in one place and sit back on a final pension it may be simpler ..... but for us...

I can partly answer your questions about US SS and UK pensions by relating some our our (her indoors) experiences.

If you are in UK (or anywhere else outside US) then you initiate your US SS...

WEP applies to pensions received from salaries that did not contribute to US SS.
So even though a person may pay into the US SS system through US employment it does not excuse that person from WEP...
