Re: New residence permits for Brits in Pt before 31/12/20

You're not missing anything: SEF has not, to my knowledge, contacted anyone. I do wish they would get a move on.

Re: French debit or credit card

Yes, that's a real problem. Once while filling up I was approached by a man who asked if I would let him fill his car up to 50 euros' worth on my card if he gave me 50 euros. I agreed, remembering...

Re: Travelling in Schengen DOUBTS

I can think of at least three countries where that has happened to me or to people under my responsibility. Fortunately none of those countries are in the EU, where I agree it’s pretty unlikely.

Re: Travelling in Schengen DOUBTS

if you’re banned, that information may be held in the Schengen Information System. That is only used for combating crime, not for ordinary immigration purposes. Others on this forum probably know...

Re: Travelling in Schengen DOUBTS

You mean national immigration services aren’t allowed to store that information, or simply that there isn’t currently an EU-wide database holding that information?

Re: Tax residency

It does, but PT bureaucracy is notoriously variable, so you might get a more amenable answer if you ask locally. There are quite a lot of different deadlines for different things, so I would try to...

Re: Tax residency

Well, your questions had the useful effect of sending me scuttling to the tax portal to see how complicated my own declaration was likely to be this year (last year I paid someone to do it, but...

Re: Tax residency

Sorry, I had failed to register that. Ok, then you have the ‘tail end of a tax year’ situation that I had. I asked the Finanças and they pointed out that unless within that ‘tail end’ part (six weeks...

Re: Tax residency

You wouldn’t be submitting anything in April 2022. April submissions are for the previous tax year. You’ll know by April 2023 whether you met the criteria for tax residency in 2022.

Re: The Queen's speech

Except that you say you skip press articles on the royal family because you’re not interested. Just seems strange to wait all those years for this thread.

Re: The Queen's speech

It wasn’t the British press that forced the poor darlings to flog Sussex Royal socks and erasers, though, was it?

Re: The Queen's speech

I left the UK 17 years ago, but still read the UK press. I just can’t quite see how this forum would provide the first inkling that something might be up with Harry. There has been plenty of...

Re: The Queen's speech

Is that a serious question? It has a lot to do with his self-obsessed public emoting and his attacks on his family. Oh, and the fake do-gooding while he seeks lucrative contracts wherever he can....

Re: The Queen's speech

I thought similar. Except that he wasn’t actually advocating the guillotine, so I’m not sure why it would be for a republic. But as a rule I find his speeches pretty bland.

Re: French 'howlers'

My workplace is mainly English-speaking. Social distancing is a problem. When French colleagues complain of lack of distancing, in English, they call it promiscuity.

Re: Crossing from Spain to Portugal by land
