Re: New Thai Visa Scheme - seeks 1 million applicants!

Update to the above; I've never heard of that ruling mentioned by RedApe before, so went Googling.

The PWC website says the following:

"Income Exempt From Tax: Pensions, which is derived from...

Re: New Thai Visa Scheme - seeks 1 million applicants!

That's news to me! Good news if true! I have official confirmation that such is the case in Thailand, but I haven't seen that for Malaysia. Do you have a reference?

I have a feeling some...

Re: New Thai Visa Scheme - seeks 1 million applicants!

I agree RedApe, it seems like a nightmarishly complex rule to enforce. But I guess for starters it means that we ALL now have to file an annual tax return in Malaysia, declaring remittances (if any),...

Re: New Thai Visa Scheme - seeks 1 million applicants!

Give me some examples Pilki. But they have to be destinations where I’m not going to be taxed.
Id then need to see if there’s a DTA with my home country too. Tax Free living is what it’s all about...

Re: New Thai Visa Scheme - seeks 1 million applicants!

Hi Pilki, you can read up on it here: https://www.boi.go.th/upload/content/LTR.pdf
That requirement to confirm your address in Thailand is only once a year with this scheme.
The fee on approval of...

Re: Property Agent Commission in Penang

Just to update you all on that complaint I made to the LPPEH back in April.
Still no comment or response from them. So much for their 'Code of Conduct'. Just another rule that everybody ignores.

Re: New Thai Visa Scheme - seeks 1 million applicants!

I'm only interested in that Wealthy Pensioner option. No investment required.
With Malaysia suddenly taxing Foreign Remittances, and Thailand giving them an exemption - it's a no brainer.
I suspect...

Re: Best places in North Dublin

Don't go to Skerries or Balbriggan. Both have BIG problems with gangs of immigrant youths terrorising the areas.
Malahide is the best place, followed by Portmarnock and/or Howth. Stay coastal, if...

Re: August 2022: Malaysia now taxes foreign-sourced income not taxed at source

Good article, thanks. Reading that just makes it more obvious that this is going to be a total mess, impossible to administer unless they get real and clarify the details.
Meanwhile the foreign...

Re: August 2022: Malaysia now taxes foreign-sourced income not taxed at source

Sure - on non exempt remittances you mean?

On another angle - what if you use a foreign credit card to pay for day to day expenses and the charges on the credit card are settled at the foreign...

Re: August 2022: Malaysia now taxes foreign-sourced income not taxed at source

Still researching, but I have found the following extract from the new rules :" A flat income tax rate of 3% would apply on the gross amount of FSI received in Malaysia from 1 January 2022 to 30 June...

Re: August 2022: Malaysia now taxes foreign-sourced income not taxed at source

Good point Stepen - much of my retirement savings were accumulated in Hong Kong as taxed salary. So in theory I can remit it all with no further tax exposure here. But it's clear that this whole...

Re: Is a TransferWise exchange a 'Remittance'?

Re: Is a TransferWise exchange a 'Remittance'?

With the current weakness of the Euro against the Ringgit (down by @ 10% in the last 12 months) and a tax rate here of around 30% - it wouldn't make much sense to continue importing money into this...

Re: August 2022: Malaysia now taxes foreign-sourced income not taxed at source

I doubt the malicious interpretation - my impression of Malaysian governance is generally one of simple ineptitude and confusion. The previous tax flip-flop was an example of it. Big declaration! -...

Re: Taxation of Remittances to Malaysia

Same thought crossed my mind Stepen.
Either they were being sneaky clever - or just plain stupid.
Neither is a good conclusion.
