Re: Approximately how much should I expect to spend as a UK GP planning the move

We can all say how winter isn't that bad/it's the worst thing ever/it's a dry cold/it's a damp cold/wind chill...

Re: BC Gas Price

We were in Van last weekend and were surprised at the variation in prices within a short distance. In Calgary, I'd be surprised to see more than 2c to 3c difference.

Re: A very big moment in UK Politics

Completely agree with this. Dont like the woman at all, but it was going to be a mess any which way, and it was a poisoned chalice from the moment the votes were confirmed.
As an aside, as a Type 1...

Re: Gated communities in Edmonton?

What are you hoping to get out of a gated community? Are you looking for 24 hour security, or are you likely to be away a lot?

I wouldn't say a gated community is that common here. It makes me...

Re: What Pop Concerts do you remember attending?

Agh, jealous, the one band I never got to see live, though I did see Paul Young.
Fun fact - as Cd’s became the thing, I replaced or got rid of every vinyl I had, except one, and it’s my Q-tips...

I saw The Clash 5 times. King, Sade, Paul Young, OMD, Erasure, U2 early on 3 times till they got mammoth and Bono became insufferable,. To this day, I love live...

re: Flights home

When you booked the tickets it probably said in the terms and conditions it would cost $200 to change them? While I appreciate people passing away is stressful and upsetting (we've been there), it's...

Re: Moving to Alberta: which city

So I'm near Calgary so would say Calgary ;)

If your son is 16 when he arrives, it is likely quite likely he might need to do two more years of school - Grades 11 and 12. Most kids here at 18 when...

Re: Anybody running an EV?

What about a tediously dull Rav 4 hybrid?

We switched to a Camry hybrid about 3 yrs ago. I forgive it for its equally dull appearance and finish for providing about 950km on one tank. Its actually...

Re: Income Tax - 2018

As someone who has to do year end pension reporting during January, get all that approved, then calculate pension adjustments, it’s already a challenge to get stuff completed by mid February. No...

Re: BC or Ontario?

Salmon Arm is in a pretty enough area, we enjoy summer visits and obviously the lakes are a beautiful attraction. But I’m not sure it’s the kind of place I would willingly take teenagers to live. ...

Re: Anyone moved back to the Uk from Canada?

It took us about 4 years to feel settled so 2 years is not unusual. But if you truly feel awful about the place (and can you pinpoint exactly why you have those feelings?) then start your plans now...

Re: Moving back home

This is not correct I am afraid.

To be eligible for CPP, you must only have made one contribution after the age of 18, and you can apply for that if you are living abroad at the regular age of 65...

Re: Help me narrow down locations - advice needed

There, AC has pretty much done all my typing for me! I live in Cochrane and commute to work (about 25 to 40 mins, depending on time of year). I work hard, but have a great balance. A good life can be...

Re: The income you need to buy a home in BC

I've mentioned this before, but those property shows on TV flummox me. Young couple, early 30's, two young kids and a baby on the way (so factor in drops in income in recent years with maternity...

Re: Changing work & toil direction as mature adults. - A discussion.

Re: UK Pension transferred to Canada under QROPS

We're in no man's land I think, in limbo.

Who knows if where we currently house our funds is even valid any more?!

There used to be timeline rules that if you withdrew the funds before 5(??)...
