Re: Current wait time for UK passport renewal

I sent mine FedEx, on their fully signed for service - worth the additional cost once a decade. Can’t remember the exact cost, but it was under $100 to send. Yes, that’s the usual UK passport renewal...

Re: Life and critical illness cover with UK provider

Same experience here with Aviva. I have a life insurance policy with them from nearly 20 years ago, and a zombie Stakeholder pension. They had no problem with my moving first to Switzerland, and now...

Re: Prescription eyeglasses

I’m intrigued and testing now...

- if I hold my phone at any position from full arm’s stretch, to around 8 inches from my face, it’s perfectly clear and in focus. Obviously to achieve this I’m...

Re: Prescription eyeglasses

[/size]

Here’s my numbers from last year’s exam:

Distance:
R eye: Sphere -4.75, Cyl -0.75, Axis 35
L eye: Sphere -4.00, Cyl -1.00, Axis 160

Add: (presumably the bit they ‘add back’ for...

Re: Prescription eyeglasses

I had to make the switch to progressives about 3-4 years ago in my mid-late 40s. At the time, I was wearing single vision lenses for distance, and taking the glasses off to read as they were...

Re: Current wait time for UK passport renewal

I renewed mine last month; the new one arrived about 10 days later.

I had one of my kids take iPhone snaps of me against a pale grey wall for the photo. When I uploaded it, it was first rated as...

Re: Covid-19 Vaccination -- Have You Gotten It?

How nice of you to remember about him! No, he’s got about 18 months of credits to go, but is actually on a gap year right now. When his campus shut down last March, he of course moved back home and...

Re: Covid-19 Vaccination -- Have You Gotten It?

Moderna #1 in mid-March - spent a few frustrating days constantly checking for appointments when my over-50s category opened up in Ohio. Then I got lucky - the supermarket I work at had a spare dose...

Re: 2020 and the joys of N400 waiting

Just checked after reading your update - I also have a letter mailed and on the way, with an interview date set for January 22nd.

Re: 2020 and the joys of N400 waiting

My adult son and I applied around the same time to squeak in before the price hike, and we also received the same letters last week. So it sounds like it’s a standard thing this year, to avoid...

Re: Gizza Job

I think that sort of hours finagling is typical of all supermarkets- except currently in the online order picking department I’m in! We’re very much the golden child right now, and probably for the...

Re: Gizza Job

Oh no, often it’s a mess, especially in the non-grocery departments - produce, meat, dairy, etc. Most of the produce items say there are ‘999+’ of a thing almost all the time, but the produce team...

Re: Gizza Job

Where I live it depends on the store. The shopping list is laid out by aisle for Kroger stores, but not for Meijer or Aldi. But even when aisle locations are given, they can sometimes be incorrect....

Re: Gizza Job

Agreed - app jobs are perfect for people looking for flexibility, or like in your case a good temporary fix until you get yourselves relocated and are in a position to look for something more stable....

Re: Gizza Job

The Fiji one - I did get something like a couple of the small 6-bottle packs he ordered, but the guy also wanted a mad quantity of large packs that is almost never available at a standard...

Re: Gizza Job

I can well believe it. Most of my customers were somewhere between indifferent and wonderful, but I had a few that were ridiculously demanding and entitled. One guy absolutely lost his mind upon...

Re: Moving UK Pension pot from Co Scheme to draw-down

I too thought Glasgow Girl’s response was succinctly excellent - BE Forum won’t let me rep them again/ this much, apparently, but public hat tip to how helpful the post was!

Re: Coronavirus and Health status

I can add an extra anecdotal spin to this. I work in a supermarket which serves a moderately affluent area with about a 75/25 split of white/ black people living there. I regularly see Instacart...

Re: Gizza Job

Aw, thanks! I like making processes more efficient for all concerned 😊

Instacart sends out what they call a ‘batch’, which can be one, two or three orders for the same store, combined into one...

Re: Gizza Job

Hmm... I expect it wasn’t really assigned. Once we accept, we have 30 mins to get to the store before we get a notification; 15 mins later we get a final warning, and another 10-15 mins later the...

Re: Gizza Job

Some of it comes from the delivery fee and service fee Instacart charges, on top of the tip (no idea why they split those out; I expect the nickel and diming nature of it is irritating to most...

Re: Gizza Job

Yes, it’s the same person throughout. Instacart will offer your order out to their nearby gig workers about 1-2 hours before your delivery time slot. The potential shoppers will be able to see the...

Re: Gizza Job

Excellent, will do!

How is your delivering going? Have you received the promised supplies of sanitizers and wipes so you can safely keep the burgers coming to hungry teens?

Re: Gizza Job

Ha, I’ve been ‘striking’ since the virus started! Originally because I didn’t want to take the hit to my ratings (and therefore jeopardize my 5-star priority status for the best order offers in the...
