Re: Decent salary

Hi there, I've lived in Peterborough for 8 years. It's not without its faults (where is?) but generally we think it's a great place to live. As others have mentioned, proximity to Toronto, Ottawa,...

Re: Reasons to believe

Oh they do like a garage here, that's a fact.

To your original point, I'd suggest that anyone living in Ontario (but without the misfortune of being in the GTA) who had $800K to spend on a...

That largely depends on where you live and what you define as "ordinary".

Re: Child and teenage wellbeing in Canada vs UK

I can't offer a London (UK) / Toronto / Vancouver perspective having never lived in those cities, but my overall experience is that youth/teenagers in Canada (or at least the parts of Ontario with...

Re: So when does it "get better"

That might be a big part of the problem right there.

No shame in that. You never know until you try something.

Ha ha, yeah I hear you. But it's still preferable to the general cynicism...

Re: So when does it "get better"

Wow! Is that a Fredericton thing? That certainly doesn't resonate with my experiences.

Re: So when does it "get better"

Sorry to hear this. In which part of Canada are you living, and what was your motivation for moving here?

For my part, I found things "clicked" after about 2 years here when it started to feel...

Re: Positive Immigration Stories (Also, any Welsh expats here?)

Welcome to the forum, Ross.

I am originally from the SE Wales area. Please feel free to PM me for any info/advice/moral support whatsoever.

Scilly nicely nails it with this: "My advice...

Re: Things you wish you could’ve done differently

Wish I'd learned to ice skate before moving here, so I could get a bit more out of winter! Alas, age and dodgy knees from playing football make it a bit too risky to start now.

One piece of golden...

Re: Ferry from UK to Canada?

Just my two cent's worth: reversing into the Tim's drive-thru in rush-hour might be a little tricky.

Re: Why Canada?

Married to a Canadian.

Exceeded (although I was more hopeful than expectant when I came!)

Over 21st century UK? Yes, every time.

Re: Timeline from citizenship test to ceremony

Well I followed your advice and, lo and behold, 2 days later I get invited to a ceremony next month! Coincidence?

Anyway, thanks to all for your replies on this thread.

Re: Timeline from citizenship test to ceremony

Okay, thanks for the reassurance!

Would you happen to know how much notice they give you when your turn for the ceremony does come around?

Timeline from citizenship test to ceremony

Hi, I'm getting a little concerned about how long this is taking. Basically the background is this:
Application processing started: Feb 2017
Test sat & passed: May 2017
and, er, nothing since!

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

Yes mate, they do. Ours was take out. Can order totally online too.

Can't comment on the beer selection but I'm sure they've got that covered!

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

I'll second Bats on that, Paul. We tried it the other day and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. It was also very busy in there (a good sign too, albeit probably the "new" factor).

Re: Six years and done

I get what you are saying but feel you may also be guilty of some over-generalisation.
I'm not a particularly social animal myself, but I have met many Ontarians (usually through sporting...

Re: struggling to settle

I can empathise with what you are saying but, as someone else posted earlier, 9 months is no time at all in respect of an adjustment period. Two years (and even as many as five) is more realistic....

In the past, I have used...

Hi Twink. You probably already know the basics from your own research and will obviously be aware that it's not really a like-for-like comparison, so the answer to your question will probably depend...
