Re: Getting your UK TV fix

Thing is, i do watch all of my tv on the TV (and the ipad) so I'm not sure what your point is. The cost of unotelly + netflix is far preferable to what you are suggesting and I get iplayer, 4OD and...

Re: Now it is my turn :)

We haven't decided to leave as such we just think we don't want to retire here either. Having taught in an international school for a couple of years we would like to do it again, partly for the...

Re: Can I Afford To Emigrate

I'd echo the other posts. That's not a bad amount to live on assuming you are not in Auckland or Wellington. As a mortgage deposit you'd still have quite a mortgage if you want to buy anything nice...

Re: Should we bring our car?

I'm going to go against the grain here a bit. Shipping is only part of the cost, there is paperwork and costs involved in bringing it in. Also don't forget that as a diesel you have to pay your road...

Re: Getting your UK TV fix

Get iPlayer Automator was the program I meant. As I type this it is downloading, Outnumbered, Inside No 9 and Line of Duty. Magic.
At the same time, wife is surfing and the Internet Smart Radio is...

Re: Possible to live on one wage? ChCh

We came 10 years ago to just one job, 2 small children. Salary was about $70k.
We managed, but it was touch and go and within a year the wife was working. We brought money from house sale but not a...

Re: Possible to live on one wage? ChCh

Sorry to have to say it but we could not manage on that and we have only a small mortgage by most people's standards. We have no expensive hobbies, no boats, a cheap and cheerful motor (we only got a...

Re: Now it is my turn :)

Because we already took the kids to the Middle East for a couple of years and we'd prefer not to interrupt their education a second time. My eldest needs to finish Year 13 and my youngest is quite...

Re: Getting your UK TV fix

Unotelly has no problems with broadband speed because it's a DNS server. Generally far better than a proxy server.
I have watched all of uncle so far with not a single buffering issue.
There is a...

Re: a million questions where to start

Incredibly difficult question to answer.
Our move here saw us in similar/same jobs as UK. We bought a cheap house that is cold in the winter and needs a lot of maintenance but doesn't break the bank...

Re: Getting your UK TV fix

Bevs, go for it. You can get a free trial for a week with unotelly which is what I did. After just a couple of days I realised it was a no-brainer as it worked so well. You can sign up for a month, 3...

Re: Getting your UK TV fix

4OD works fine on my ipad and mac. no speed issues at all. the only irritating think is the 4OD app doesn't stream to an Apple TV like iPlayer does.
Wouldn't know about SKY, you need a UK...

Re: Getting your UK TV fix

Which UK services don't work?
I'm pretty cheesed off that Absolute 80's has stopped broadcasting outside the UK and I van't find an easy solution to that yet.
But all of the tv channels I have...

Getting your UK TV fix

Not everyone is that bothered by watching TV so if you are not there really is no need to post about how sailing your boat/climbing mountains/surfing/diving/shooting possum/sticking pigs or any one...

Been in New Plymouth since 2004. Have never regretted it as a place to raise the children. It has a lot going for it, the coastal walkway, incredible parks, the mountain. It's also a pretty safe...

Re: Coming to NZ To Teach? Read This.

Definitely not as easy to get into as it once was! Back in the 90's I was often the only applicant for Technology jobs in the UK and could take my pick. I was offered 2 jobs in one day once and the...

Wanted Down Under New Plymouth

Anyone got a copy of the BBC Wanted Down Under episodes that feature New Plymouth. They are not on iPlayer and I'm not finding them on the 'usual' sites I use.
