As them about a plan for certain visa holders. T mobile do some system where if you hold a visa (and we are E2 so a less common type and it worked for us) they will waive the deposit. Worked for us x

We went with Kaiser as it seemed less likely to get huge out of network charges. I've been really really happy with them. Can recommend our doctor at the San Mateo offices.

We got picked for an x ray and our contained sat in Oakland for over a week while it waited in the x ray queue. We got stung for demuage (sp?) charges as well as the x ray.

Ps don't worry about a dearth of houses, that really can change within a matter of days. Just pick an area (or 2 if that makes you feel more comfortable) and figure out housing when you are nearer....
