Yep, looks like you landed smack dab in the middle of the bible belt. I'm in Dallas, and it's surreal, but there really is a church on every corner, and they mean business. I try not to go outside.

Yes, healthcare is a racket in the states, and gets worse if you have a pre-existing condition. But I've a friend in Scotland, and the healthcare there is shameful too. Sad.
