Do you have a favourite comparison site?

There seems to be a million to choose from, and they all want your entire life history before giving you any useful information. I'm looking in particular at making savings on my electricity and gas...

Re: How long to cook a meat loaf?

Thanks all, once again.

I didn't know there was a recipes thread. I'll check that out for sure.

Cheers

Re: How long to cook a meat loaf?

Thanks Dorothy and SoS. The sauces sound yummy, but I'll save those for another time. I stuck it in at 170C (fan forced), but after 50 mins it was only hot-ish in the middle, so upped it to 180C and...

How long to cook a meat loaf?

I've made a veggie-packed meatloaf for when my monkeys come to me this afternoon. Same recipe as my meatballs and burger patties, but I've not done it as a loaf before. It is in a regular-sized load...

'The Final Quarter' doco - safe for a 7yo?

My 7yo wants to watch the Adam Goodes doco 'The Final Quarter'. I have it recorded, but haven't watched it myself yet. I'm happy for him to watch it for the subject matter, but is it too sweary,...

Re: Space Space Baby

Like most things SpaceX does, that is another astonishing achievement. I presume the fairing is not guided in anyway, so for the ship to be in just the right spot is amazing.

Re: Wife left / visa/support position / legal / where do I stand?

First thank you once again for all the messages of support, encouragement and sympathy. Thanks also for all those nuggets "he won't like it, but needs to hear it" too. That's good too, and...

Re: Wife left / visa/support position / legal / where do I stand?

And if I were in her shoes, I can understand wanting to get the house sold.

I think ... I hope at least... I have demonstrated enough intent to get some training done and get looking for work, for...

Re: Wife left / visa/support position / legal / where do I stand?

Not losing my visa is also a massive relief. I know my wife gets some sort of childcare benefit, but I don't imaging it is a huge amount as she is on over $100,000/year. Her take-home pay is about...

Re: Wife left / visa/support position / legal / where do I stand?

What I've learnt so far both independently and from nice people like you :) is that you're right, I'm basically on my own. What I'll be exploring at my first legal appointment on Thursday will be,...

Re: Wife left / visa/support position / legal / where do I stand?

Hi MP. Thanks for that. I think you're right - the period where she *must* support me is long gone. The means test indicator was very useful - it says I 'likely' qualify for legal aid. I have my...

Re: How much do I need to earn?

After what has happened the last two days (the wife transferring money away), that generated more questions about rights, entitlements, etc. I have a full page of notes and an appointment on Thursday...

Re: Wife left / visa/support position / legal / where do I stand?

It's not a bad thought at all. But, I don't have a car (we were a one car family), and live several hundred K away from a city that has Uber... cheers anyway

Wife left / visa/support position / legal / where do I stand?

First, I recognise I need to get legal advice. From whom exactly I don't know, as I have no money ... legal aid? Any advice given here will be taken only as opinion, not legal fact, but still any...

Re: How much do I need to earn?

I'm actually quite encouraged. I assumed I'd need to be earning $70-$80K+++ to afford this house. I always left money up to the now departed (as in buggered off, not kicked the bucket...) wife. She...

How much do I need to earn?

I have written up a spreadsheet to calculate costings for my potential household budget. On average I'm looking at $2800 per month (including trying to save $300/month) - roughly $33,000/year. That...

Angry Why is Centrelink so awful? (Unanswerable question)

Got a medical certificate from the GP this week - signed off work for two months (initially, at least). Went to Centrelink Tuesday, filled out forms, submitted all info. Staff - largely unhelpful....

Re: Advice/sympathy/slap in the head - all welcome (long/heavy post)

Indeed. It may be that I've not needed meds until now is that I used to be big into running. Two London Marathons under my belt. After coming here family life took over, and I never made 'me' any...

Re: Anyone tried Hello Fresh, etc?

Cheers y'all.

I do need of course to start eating again ... but that ok. I've lost appetite before and it always comes back. And that beer belly REALLY needed to start shifting..

Anyone tried Hello Fresh, etc?

Now I'm having to cook for myself, I can of course go shopping but I've been wondering about those "everything sorted and delivered to your door" services.

Hello Fresh for example, all their...

Re: Advice/sympathy/slap in the head - all welcome (long/heavy post)

Thanks everyone for your continued input - all of it, be it gentle or harsh. It's all good. I have got a lot out of each and every one.

I went to see my GP today. Looks like I've got the right man...

Hi Rete and scot47. Blunt and non-sugar coated I can handle. I appreciate merely that you have taken the time to reply. Food for thought and genuinely appreciated. Thank you

Re: Advice/sympathy/slap in the head - all welcome (long/heavy post)

So... we told the boys our news this afternoon.

3yo - pretty oblivious, as expected. Though when he saw us all keep crying he kept nipping off to get tissues for us all. So sweet and thoughtful...
