Re: Dubai to Doha

Moved back to UK. But may be moving again. Rumblings of being sent to the US are occurring at the moment.

Re: Drug Use

Agree.

Drugs, especially marijuana usage has come out of the shadows and you now see more and more stoned middle aged people out in public and you smell it far more in public now than you did 20...

Re: Doha - Reputable real estate agents (rentals)

No need to use agents. You probably don't realise but in Qatar it's the tenant, not the landlord, who pays the agent's commission. It's a waste of money.

Look at propertyfinder.qa and search for...

Re: Who's the next PM

Premature after all. She won't go tonight. And 1922 choked again. But Leadsom is out!

Who's next?

Any predictions on the EU elections? Will the Tories perform under 10%? Wouldn't be surprised.

Re: Who's the next PM

True.

Lidington is rumoured to be the caretaker PM pending a leadership contest. So he'd technically be the next PM.

As for a GE. Probably. Not not quite yet.

Who's the next PM

Rumour is May may resign tonight. Whenever it is, her time is up very soon.

Who will replace her? Who do you have your money on? BoJo? Andrea Leadsom? Dominic Raab? Esther McVey?

Re: Qatar Living Costs (what do you budget?)

I can imagine how much fun it is to push a pram from the metro station to Katara and then to the Intercon for a drink..... But just think of all those wonderful entertainment, restaurant and bar...

Re: Qatar Living Costs (what do you budget?)

Most Western families are in the compounds in Waab and near Villagio or out westwards off the Doha Expressway like Beverly Hills Al Rayyan or down in Al Thumama. They live down there because most of...

Re: Qatar Living Costs (what do you budget?)

None of these places are in Katara. This is Katara: Home (http://www.katara.net/en)

Which is very dry. I've never heard anyone refer to these hotels being in Katara. Kempinksi is in on the Pearl...

Re: Qatar Living Costs (what do you budget?)

You're locked in for a year. Just a FYI. There's a couple big compounds. Beverly Hills Al Rayyan is one. Mixture of apartments and villas. They have multiple pools and in-compound shops. It's not too...

Re: Qatar Living Costs (what do you budget?)

Err, am I missing something here? Soulless compared to.... West Bay? And the Pearl? Uh, ok. WB probably wins hands down as the most soulless place in Qatar. Half empty badly built and badly designed...

Re: Qatar Living Costs (what do you budget?)

Outside rush hour. Shortcut through Bidda park. It's a pretty direct route if you're just off the C Ring road or Rayyan Road. Quickest was to go down Rayyan to the roundabout and then cut into the...

Re: Qatar Living Costs (what do you budget?)

I think you're basing all your impressions of the entirety of Sadd on the blocks closest to Sadd Road. There's a retail corridor populated by Filipinos and South Asian laborers and some older...

Re: Qatar Living Costs (what do you budget?)

Sure, right. I'm beginning to think you don't know Sadd. Are we talking about the same area? Opposite Hamad Hospital? Off the C-Ring Road? Behind Barwa Towers? Largely middle income Indians and Arabs...

Re: Qatar Living Costs (what do you budget?)

Not everyone works in WB. Has the original poster told us where he's working?

There are two Thai places. One is newish, opened up last year. Called Khaosan. Pretty good Thai, I'd venture to say...

Re: Is the dream dead?

I remember when I first came to Dubai in 2008 thrilled to be making 25k a month as an architect and then I met a dumb blonde from Australia who'd come over on a whim and walked into PA jobs making...

Re: Qatar Living Costs (what do you budget?)

Is Sadd really that bad? I lived there briefly when I first came to Doha and there were plenty of westerners. Especially teachers. Lots of new buildings and some old ones too. Location was very...

Re: Qatar Living Costs (what do you budget?)

Qatar is not inherently a bad place. It's just very dull and boring and dreary. And ugly. It doesn't have the joie de vivre of Dubai. But some people seem to love it, which I find intriguing.

Re: Cooking

Cooking is pretty easy, isn't it. Waitrose, microwave/pot of boiling water, two minutes later you're done.

The answer is that you and your husband are both right. I don't have time to type out a longer reply now and may not for a day or so but if I were you I'd try to move your thread to the main ME page...

EU have nixed May's request for an extension to 30 June, saying end of May is the most on offer (oh look, a pun without even trying!) And that is contingent on May passing MV3 next week. If it's...

Re: Brexshit

It was November/December, I believe. Something to do with declaring the government in contempt despite the government following the same precedent as previous governments. Something like that.

It...
