Re: W7 (and presumably 8/8.1) to W10

I have a few old laptops still on W7 - dell OEM licenses. I'll try them! I need to keep one at W7 for test purposes but I think I have two at least. I'll give it a shot!

Thanks

Re: W7 (and presumably 8/8.1) to W10

This is very interesting! I thought that ship had sailed. What was the version of Win7 that you successfully updated? I have some desktops at windows 7 professional that I'd like to upgrade.

Re: 2020 Election

I grew up 'up north' in a poor working class family. I had a very strong 'northern' accent. I went to London to attend uni. The amount of ridicule I got for being from 'up north' was quite...

Re: 2020 Election

I wonder why they categorized based on 'liberal or very liberal', rather than 'likely democratic voters'. It's not clear to me they are the same demographic.

I actually think Sanders' response is...

Re: 2020 Election

I think you meant to say, Democratic candidates. I doubt most registered democratic voters supporters do. At this stage, it's not about appealing to the majority, it's about appealing to a narrow...

Re: Post EU Referendum...Part II

A rather detailed rejection of that modern trendy assertion here - https://quillette.com/2016/06/23/on-the-reality-of-race-and-the-abhorrence-of-racism/

Found in the comments there, a rather...

Re: President Trump

You know, you can do the same while at home. I've been practicing the art of 'no news' (on TV) for a long time now. Anything that's really important, you can't avoid it through other channels. I've...

Re: Goggle box- anything worth watching on TV?

I agree with you that History at school was utterly boring and seemingly pointless. Some of these programs are a bit 'soapy' but still - yes, they bring life to the subject matter and make it more...

Re: 2020 Election

Do you think anyone not in (Biden, Sanders, Warren, Harris) has a hope?
I'm encouraged to see Sanders not leading. My g/f still says she would sit out the election if Biden stands, which is...

Re: Goggle box- anything worth watching on TV?

Only thing I've watched with my Amazon Prime account so far (had it for a few years, but mainly for shipping) is 'Man In The High Castle'. Really enjoyed it; it's an 'alternate future' story, what...

Re: Is It Wrong To Want To 'Look' For An American Girlfriend

Wow - I graduated from Uni (London) early 80s with an engineering degree (Computer systems) and I don't think the concept of email existed to us back then! No personal computers, of course, to...

Re: Cost of living in Phoenix, AZ

Home rental appears missing and will be the single biggest item in your budget. The good news is, rents are low in the Phoenix Metropolitan area (often called 'the valley') and choice is big. Be...

Re: Is It Wrong To Want To 'Look' For An American Girlfriend

I had a similar experience; when I went to London (for Uni), I was decidedly ridiculed / discriminated against due to my strong "north western" accent ("eh, bah gum... "and all that). I remember...

Re: Pet Insurance

Since a dental cleaning is not an unexpected or unpredictable expense, but rather, something that every pet needs and therefore, is likely to be used by most if not all clients, I can't see how they...

Re: Goggle box- anything worth watching on TV?

Oh Boy! I watched the first two (original) episodes of Twin Peaks last night! What an amazing show! It was far less 'bizarre' than I was expecting - maybe that aspect develops over time. The first...

Re: Post EU Referendum...Part II

Good question. I guess education is a 3rd type of service; one that everyone consumes. So .... you have 'mainly used in an emergency only and when used, only for brief periods' (NHS, Fire, Police,...

Re: Post EU Referendum...Part II

I think there are two types of service to which people may feel a 'sense of entitlement'; occasional, on-demand, 'emergency' type services, and persistent, long-term services. The NHS, police, fire,...

That could be; I was talking new cars specifically. The used car market here in the US does seem to be a complete mystery. I did buy my last car used, through a friend who specializes in lease...

Re: Post EU Referendum...Part II

You don't HAVE to know which one to use. Simply use 'of' all the time, and you'll be 90% correct and 10% wrong. Currently, you are 10% correct and 90% wrong because 'off' is much less used than 'of'.

Re: Let's talk about cars

Regarding car buying ... I think it's worth noting that any car that is trendy or popular is going to command a higher price and you may never get a 'good deal' in that context. I've always been a...
