Re: Brits in Charleston SC

Hey guys,

I'm visiting Charleston from the 20th of March to the 25th of April - my girlfriend lives on James Island, and I'll be seeing her and 'working from home'.

I'd love to meet up with...

Re: Brits competing against Americans in US job market.

This might be a pretty complex question, but does anyone know if I can work voluntarily without pay without a GC? I am thinking that the 60-90 day wait for my Adjustment of Status could be spent...

Re: Brits competing against Americans in US job market.

Thanks Bob and Marriedtoabrit,

I do have a lot of experience working with Linked in through generating sales leads so I'll just have to sell myself hard. I'm in Charleston in April so I'll make a...

Hi All,

I've used this site so far to begin the visa process which will bring me to the States to be with my USC girlfriend. I've run some searches on the 'employability' of Brits in the States...

Re: A new story. K1 vs CR-1. What would you do if you could do it all over again?

I guess the issue we have is wanting to avoid any delays due to lack of information...whilst also not overloading them with content.

I think we'll stick with the 'unknown' answer and hope this...

Re: A new story. K1 vs CR-1. What would you do if you could do it all over again?

Ian - Yes I was under the impression that I had read a note on changing names in a previous thread but am pleased to hear that it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

There is, however, another...

Re: A new story. K1 vs CR-1. What would you do if you could do it all over again?

Thanks Rene,

So essentially we will have to report her other names regardless of whether we use the passport to verify citizenship vs the birth certificate...which in turn makes the name change...

Re: A new story. K1 vs CR-1. What would you do if you could do it all over again?

Question 7 of the I-129f asks for 'Other Names Used (including maiden name)', would this include previous names prior to them being legally changed?

Re: A new story. K1 vs CR-1. What would you do if you could do it all over again?

Thanks Ian and Rene!

Ian - I assume, having re-read, that they are asking for a Citizenship certificate number in question 10 of the I-129f?

Rene - We have a few similar issues in that my...

Re: A new story. K1 vs CR-1. What would you do if you could do it all over again?

Hello again - I suppose it was only a matter of time before I came back with more questions!

My partner has changed her name twice since birth, and is not sure that she has the paperwork which...

Re: English girl marrying American boy in England but moving to America! Which visa?!

Would it also work if they filed for a K-1 visa now, allowing them to push forward with the process without going to the states and getting married...then had the 'special' (rather than legal)...

Re: A new story. K1 vs CR-1. What would you do if you could do it all over again?

Hi there, another quick question in regards to relationship evidence:

Do online booking confirmations weigh as heavily as an actual ticket stub? I tend to throw away the little ticket tear off...

Re: A new story. K1 vs CR-1. What would you do if you could do it all over again?

Hey all, another question I'm afraid. I've read a few times on here that a visa filed directly in London takes around 5 months...are they talking about an I-130 (CR-1)?

Would it be simpler for my...

Re: A new story. K1 vs CR-1. What would you do if you could do it all over again?

I have scanned my signed copy of the G-325A and scanned a page of my Password which contains a US Immigation stamp from September 2011.

Do they need original copies or are scans sufficient?

Re: A new story. K1 vs CR-1. What would you do if you could do it all over again?

We've decided to go down the K-1 visa route and are in the process of putting together the application. I was suprised to learn (via this site) that there is much more to complete than just the...

Re: A new story. K1 vs CR-1. What would you do if you could do it all over again?

Thank you all for your replies, they do help a great deal in making a decision that will affect us for the next 10 months.

While I initially leaned towards the CR-1 route for the financial...

Re: A new story. K1 vs CR-1. What would you do if you could do it all over again?

Very good points Jeff,

I'm trying to approach this from the most responsible angle possible...which includes earning (and saving) in the UK for as long as possible vs just getting to the US as...

Re: A new story. K1 vs CR-1. What would you do if you could do it all over again?

Re: A new story. K1 vs CR-1. What would you do if you could do it all over again?

Sorry yes the CR-1 route does not include the $1070 fee.

I'm afraid I can't find the chart in wiki...but it sounds perfect for my situation. Could you link me?

No I'm not Scottish :) - English...

Re: A new story. K1 vs CR-1. What would you do if you could do it all over again?

Thanks guys for the replies - really appreciate it.

So under the K1 process it would be $1070 + the $340 I-129
vs
CR-1 being $420 for the I-130 and the fee for the I-864 (which I am completely...
