Re: QM2 for the move- with dogs

Totally agree on recommending driving trans-continentally down in the US, then ducking up into Alberta through Montana; crossing the border at Wildhorse & picking up the Trans-Canada Highway east of...

Can birth at RAF Akrotiri qualify one for Cypriot (EU) citizenship?

***Advance apologies if this has been covered somewhere that I didn't find in my search.***

With the UK looking increasingly likely now to actually & stupidly persist with leaving the EU, does...

Re: The Kitty Cat Thread

My 6yo black DMH "Lawrence" disappeared without a trace on June 21st; happily, he was found alive by a farmer last Monday (Aug. 26th), injured & starving, on a farm several miles away, having by...

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

I think so, as well. Starmer & Beckett would be a winning combination, from what we've seen.

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

You argued similarly with me (about Islam) a few days ago in another thread, & you ended-up basically wishing divine retribution upon me, so I think we'll leave it here, lad. As I ended-up saying...

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

Hehe, well we'll know in about 25hrs, or so. And this is only the lower-half of the "corpse" that they'll be voting on tomorrow; hopefully it has legs & is properly shod.

Re: Post EU Referendum...Part II

An accurate assessment, fully agreed to. I think Beckett's poise & politeness & demeanour are exemplary.

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

After the 2017 GE debacle that they didn't have to have, the Tories don't want a GE in the afterglow of this near-disaster.

I don't want BoJo & JRM et al., either, but I sense that that's what's...

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

Yup, it does. Thanks for looking it up, Annetje. Much obliged.

If we're permitted to predict the future on here, I will predict that the WA bit will be passed by the HoC tomorrow, & that that'll...

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

Tusk offered us an LE, but TM said no to fielding MEP elections in May; so technically she still has Tusk's kind offer of an LE up her sleeve.

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

Long Extension has been offered by Tusk, but we'd have to field a new set of MEPs. It's necessary to read & check prior to stating something as a factoid, mon ami.

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

HMG does have control. And the 6M signatories have already been emailed the official response. Had your "venal politicians" cared one iota about the 6M, then the revocation &/or 2R indicatives...

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

Nope. The Tories would go Long Extension before your apocalyptic scenario would even be considered. Now that BoJo can feel his PMship approaching, what kinds of deals & discussions might one suppose...

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

HMG specifically ruled-out revocation in their response to the petition a couple of days ago, & Parliament showed no appetite for revoking last night; so what straw are you clutching on to so...

Re: Post EU Referendum...Part II

Well said, Lion. I like Margaret Beckett, as well. She has the air of what one has every right to expect a Parliamentarian to be like.

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

Remain'd be objectively best for the U.K., certainly; but millions of people suddenly feeling cheated & disenfranchised by an overnight revocation would now be socially catastrophic & frankly...

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

HMG is currently dysfunctional. Otherwise a staid loyal like Letwin would never have broken new ground at Westminster. It's now boiled-down to either the WA or a long extension & a long agony.

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

It'd be a mistake to underestimate the threat of far-right zealots taking a revocation as their licence to wreak havoc. Look at the alarming policing article which I think Lion pointed out to us all...

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

And yet even more temper. Revocation at this late stage would lead to uncontainable social fury, which our police forces definitely don't want, particularly in the North of England. Suck it up...

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

Letwin's left his run too late, as there's no time now for carefully & responsibly researching all of the myriad options that are now being put up for indicatives. Suffering must now happen. The WA...

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

It's the price that must now be paid for Cameron's stupidity. Calling the 2016 R in the first place was the dumbest thing. He cut & ran after his big eff-up precisely because he (& Osborne, etc.)...
