Re: PM Boris

The British government appears to be the one trying to start a war with Iran. I honestly don't know what Trump thinks he's doing, but so far he's avoided every opportunity he's been offered to bomb...

Re: PM Boris

Not a fan of Boris, but it's sure to be amusing.

Re: Saudi Arabia

And how do you think Trudeau (or, indeed, pretty much any modern politician) would cope in a world where life was 'nasty, brutish and short?'

Since WWII, we've lived through an economic summer,...

Re: Seatac plane

Seriously, there are 'club' equivalents for aircraft. But ground staff are likely to need access to controls when moving them around. Maybe not to start the engines, though.

Or there's the...

Re: Saudi Arabia

Most policies on both left and right were developed during the post-WWII era, one of the easiest periods of human history, where there was enough ruin left in the system that you could afford a lot...

Re: Saudi Arabia

With whom?

Who's going to change their vote because Trudeau says bad things about Saudi Arabia?

Re: Saudi Arabia

I'm guessing in a week or two Trudeau will be putting on a Lawrence of Arabia costume and playing make up with the Saudis.

Re: Refugees from the USA

Seriously, I think Trudeau will go down in history as the man who broke Canada. I can easily see Quebec, Alberta and Saskatchewan leaving in the next twenty years as a result of his policies.

Re: Refugees from the USA

As others have pointed out, I didn't say that. But the only legitimate refugees arriving in Canada across the border from the US would have to be fleeing persecution in America, which probably...

Re: Refugees from the USA

No-one's saying they shouldn't be able to apply for PR and wait years, as we did.

But refugees are supposed to be fleeing persecution in the country they're coming from. Which means that pretty...

Re: Refugees from the USA

Doesn't really seem like a policy that will go down too well in a country with as many immigrants as Canada. I saw an article about an anti-refugee protest in Quebec by Asian immigrants a while back,...

Re: Is anyone techy? Data usage woes

Yeah, make sure you have ad-blockers installed. Now so many sites want to have video ads on their pages, those are all going to add up.

Otherwise, the only thing I might do that would add up to...

Re: Food differences (i.e. where's the bacon?)

Superstore used to have 'Wiltshire-style bacon', but it seems to have disappeared, at least in our store.

Re: Us goods and travel boycott

I'm guessing trucks will be one of the first driving markets to go autonomous, at least for the long drives between cities. Though they'll probably need humans on board for the first few years to...

Re: Us goods and travel boycott

Yes, we generally buy local where we can anyway.

As for aluminium, America produced 3-4x as much aluminium only a few years ago. I've no idea what condition those smelters are in, but I suspect...

Re: Us goods and travel boycott

No plans to go to America any time soon, but there's no way I'm going to be able to stop buying US products when so many things aren't made in Canada at all.

Roll on the home 3D metal printers...

Re: Maybe it's not a housing issue.

I suspect a lot of it is an immigration issue. Not just us coming in from outside Canada, but people from across Canada moving out West when they retire, after selling their house, and taking all...

Re: Would you fall for these Credit Card Scams?

As someone who works with telephone switches on an irregular basis, the system is so clunky that I wouldn't be at all surprised if a crook could make your phone do all those things without much...

Re: Goodbye Greyhound in Western Canada.

It certainly was a bad time for the Saskatchewan government to cancel their bus service. We've noticed a lot more hitch-hikers since that happened.

Re: Netflix series about Canada?

Canada seems to be losing its place as the cheap country to film in, though. The new Tremors movie is set in Canada... but shot in South Africa.

Re: Netflix series about Canada?

I don't think they're on Netflix, but if you'd consider moving to the Prairies you might want to look at some of Guy Maddin's movies. Not so much because they show you a lot about life in Canada...

Trailer Park Boys. There's also the First Nations drama my girlfriend has been watching, but I forget what it's called. Black-something, I think.

Assuming they're available in the UK, of course.

Re: Gang Shootings Toronto Rant

Yes. It's hard to stop criminals getting guns when there's a vast land border with a country that's awash with them.

Not to mention a huge smuggling infrastructure bringing drugs and other illegal...

Re: Gang Shootings Toronto Rant

Pistols are quite strictly controlled here (though there was the recent case of someone buying about a dozen of them and loaning them to his criminal mates and the police not thinking that just maybe...
