It doesn't need to be paid monthly but you do need to show that it is a reliable source of income or funds. If you have any savings and investments that you could call upon if needed will also help...

Just picking up on Alan PT's post which looks like an excellent idea, if you were to fly into Lisbon, their nearest off airport station is only c.3km away in Prior Velho.

Income Tax - it can be confusing but once you are PT tax resident then you will be subject to PT or NHR tax e.g. let's say you were drawing only your state pension c. £10kpa that would not be taxable...
