Re: Car advice please

You won't get 3 car seats in the back of a Pajero if you want to use the latching points. Prado would be better, although I prefer a Nissan Pathfinder to a Prado if you're never planning to go...

I saw one CV with a QR Code linking to the guy's LinkedIn profile that I thought was pretty cool and immediately stole the idea.

Re: GHD...not the straightener

Worked with them on a few projects, they're quite well regarded in their field. Don't know what they're like as an employer but they're certainly not some dodgy outfit.

Re: UAE employment visa processing time (Abu Dhabi)

Have they done security and Tawteen clearance yet? Process is longer with government-related companies in Abu Dhabi, we usually allow for 6 weeks between offer acceptance and the employee's start...

Re: Finance market in Dubai

In my experience, school fees are usually a separate item in salary negotiations, either fully reimbursed or a contribution provided. So when you're quoted a salary, it's usually all-inclusive except...

Re: Finance market in Dubai

You'll be absolutely fine on 40k if you get school fee contribution in addition to the salary. If not, add 5k per month to the salary for each child you'll need to pay school fees for, or a bit more...

Re: Car Leasing

Yep, courtesy car when it's in for a service too. Only need to pay for your fuel and Salik.

Re: Car Leasing

Just finished a 12 month lease with Hertz, Dodge Durango GT for 3200/month. Decent car for the price, no issues at all with Hertz, only negative is the deposit they require (4 month lease fee) and...

Re: 31 October 2019

I'm hoping for the exchange rate to tank even more so I can transfer my savings/house fund from USD to GBP.

Scottish independence could be good too, one of the main drawbacks of voting Yes last...

Re: End of Service Benefit Reform

I worked in both JAFZA and DMCC, in both cases the EOSB was reduced to 7 days if you resigned. For both, the UAE Labour Law was adhered to, if there was a separate Labour Law used by the Free Zones,...

Re: End of Service Benefit Reform

It also applies for unlimited contracts. In the Labour Law, you get 21 days salary for each year worked subject to minimum employment of 12 months. However, if you resign for any reason, you only get...

Does that mean you don't get dinged for 2/3's of your EOSB if you resign?

Re: Hubby wants to move back to London from Dubai

Don't overestimate the security of his current job. It's heavily reliant on KSA. He could be one dip in the oil price away from being replaced by someone at half the price who is more than willing to...

Re: Trailing spouse needs job in UAE with no qualifications

There's no requirement for managerial positions to have degrees. Most companies ask for it, but in my experience, if they like you, they'll hire you even if you don't have one. That's not applicable...

Re: Etihad offer - Manager M2

It's a good offer if you're moving from a job paying GBP 50-60k per year. Otherwise, no.

Plus working for Etihad may not be so stable at the moment...

Re: How far will this get me in Abu Dhabi?

Looks ok to me assuming your allowances fully cover your rent and school fees. Leaves you with AED 24k/month to live off. If your wife works, then her salary is pure "profit" to add on top.

My net...

Re: Planning of returning to the UK with a foreign wife and two kids

Re: The EU after Brexit

You need proof that you already have accommodation when you apply for the visa.

Last time around my wife still had a valid tourist visa so we had to fly to UK, find a house to rent, then leave the...

Re: The EU after Brexit

Ah yeah that sounds familiar. It's a bit of a catch-22 - I want to use my savings as a deposit to buy a house to eventually relocate to in the UK, but if I do that then I won't meet the savings...
