Re: How to find a service provider or a worker in Sabah?

I don't know if Kaodim operates in Sabah, but it's very useful for finding service providers in KL.

Re: Question on opening FD account

A week is going to be very tight. It can take a couple of days just to get the account opened, then a few days to transfer the money. Cheque would be extra slow.

I have no experience with HSBC but...

Re: Mecical/Health Insurance questions

Looking at their brochure for Senior Med, the lifetime claim limit is RM225K. I don't think that would go very far if you had a major illness or severe accident.

Re: Mecical/Health Insurance questions

Thanks for the tipoff, but as far as I can tell Blue Cross and Pacific Cross seem to be different companies:

Re: Mecical/Health Insurance questions

Personally I find the annual limits on local policies much too low (typically RM150K) because I quite often travel to high cost countries. So, I've been looking at international health insurers:

Re: MACS - Really bad news

Great news for those who need it. By the way, I would hope MM2H is considered as equivalent to a Long Term Social Visit Pass; in mine it says "Visit Pass (social)" and it's long term, so ....

Re: Opening a Bank Account in Kuala Lumpur

In the case of Maybank I guess they are assuming you have a LTSVP on account of being married to a Malaysian, in which case she/he would be your joint account holder. In any case, I heard they have a...

Re: Opening a Bank Account in Kuala Lumpur

Yes, that's how I did it, with the slight difference that I never held MYR in my borderless account at TW - it's not possible. You just load up with enough GBP, send 100k MYR and TW takes the...

Re: Opening a Bank Account in Kuala Lumpur

Not necessarily. Recently Transferwise happily converted my GBP to 100,000 MYR and transferred it to a Malaysian bank. No problems, though I did ensure that TW were provided with full documentation...

Re: Sarawak M2H

Interesting that Dr Sim said that SMM2H participants can live "anywhere in Malaysia". That goes against the guidance given by Kuching Immigration - people are being told that they should spend more...

Re: Retiring in Malaysia - Malaysia My Second Home Visa (MM2H)

I don't doubt what you're saying, but I can't find an official government website that outlines the rules surrounding the Journey Performed requirements. If you know of one, please let's have the...

Re: Sarawak M2H

Not exactly correct for the FD route: Before you go to Immigration at all you must contact Dr Rosalind Ling at the Ministry of Tourism and tell her the bank at which you want to open the FD account...

Re: Sabah and Sarawak to become one territory?

Thanks for providing some of the history behind this. It seems to come down to interpretation of translations between Malay and English and possibly semantics, too, according to this later article:...

I wonder what this means, in practical terms? Merely a symbolic gesture or the power structures will change?: CM confident of return of ‘one territory’ status | Daily Express Online, Sabah, Malaysia....

Re: Retiring in Malaysia - Malaysia My Second Home Visa (MM2H)

Probably a dumb question: Q14 on IM.12 says Visa Requirement. Should I tick that box? LTSVP is not strictly a visa, so I was thinking maybe that question relates to the need to get a visa outside of...

Re: Retiring in Malaysia - Malaysia My Second Home Visa (MM2H)

That's impressive - far better connectivity than Kuching. It's a pity Sabah are so unforthcoming about MM2H.

It's difficult to find information about Sabah MM2H because there's no official website.

Re: MM2H Approval Hope

Interesting. Maybe there's a turf war going on between MoTaC and Home Affairs/Immigration, or maybe the new Govt is slow to make up its mind.
