Re: Paying back tax moving from J-1 to marriage based visa

I've sent an email to caleyjag to see if we can round off the aforementioned post.

In the meantime, if anyone else has insights into this kind of tax situation, I'd love to hear it :)

Re: Paying back tax moving from J-1 to marriage based visa

Hi Michael,

That thread doesn't answer the question - it remains unanswered. If anything, it sounds like the back taxes weren't going to be owed since someone at the IRS told caleyjag:

"He said...

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently on a J-1 research scholar visa, so I don't have to pay income tax in the US or UK for two years. However, the back tax becomes due (plus anything forwards) if the two...

Re: US tax returns for J1 & J2 visa holders

What section of the US-UK tax treaty applies to us J-1s who are researchers? There's that section at the end of the 1040NR-EZ that has me stumped: "Tax treaty article". How did you fill yours in?

Re: G-325A - what is the form submitted in connection to?

You've made a very valid point, JEff.... there shouldn't be a difference as we're both sending it in for the same reason... I've been converted! I-130 Petition on both!

The instructions for...

Re: G-325A - what is the form submitted in connection to?

Quite right, JEff, it's all unofficial... I think I'm going to plump for Other/I-130 Petition for the missus' copy (USC) and Other/Immigrant Visa for mine.

Instructions? What instructions?...

Re: G-325A - what is the form submitted in connection to?

You're both right... but it was my impression that they were referring to the filing of a I-130 (not sure if there are any other ways for USCs/USLPRs to bring alien relatives to the US).

Re: G-325A - what is the form submitted in connection to?

Perhaps you should read it again? The website quite clearly says:

a) N-400 Citizenship, check "Naturalization"

b) I-485 Adjustment of...
