Re: Renewing UK passport - dual citizenship

Re: Applying for German pension from USA

At last I've sent off my application for my German pension. Instead of putting the entire lengthy experience here, if anyone has any questions I'll do my best to answer them. By the way, I found it...

Re: Applying for German pension from USA

Re: Applying for German pension from USA

Thanks, I found this but it seems I still have to go through SS here, or at least get stuff certified through them. Just wondered if there's anyone here who has gone through this procedure.

Re: Is USA Passport ok?

I'm traveling to Scotland later this month. I've always used my US passport to enter and leave US and my UK passport to enter the UK. I think it's a psychological thing. I'd really like to do that...

Re: CHEESE!

I'm going to be visiting my son and family in New Jersey next month and have found a place that MIGHT sell Primula cheese. It's called Nordic Delicacies in Brooklyn. Has anyone been there? They are...

Re: Thee Question to ask about returning to the UK.

My husband died back in 2000. I always said I would leave USA if that happened. However, I had an aging Golden Retriever who would not have survived the flight back so decided to remain here until...

Re: UK state pension and USA social security

The first payment of widow's benefits came through yesterday. Now there's efficiency for you - I had the appointment on Monday and already approved and processed. :) So things can move here sometimes.

Re: UK state pension and USA social security

Your earnings are reported to SS. They knew how much I earned last year. Is this what you wanted to know?

Re: UK state pension and USA social security

I should have asked but I'm pretty certain that I will be receiving 100% of his pension. He died when he was 48 so it's not like he paid in a huge amount and the amount I'll be receiving (hopefully,...

Re: UK state pension and USA social security

As I said before, the rep at SS was extremely good and seemed to know what she was doing. I asked the same question in different ways to be absolutely sure that the information was correct.

Re: UK state pension and USA social security

Something I forgot. Apparently I can claim my German pension through SS here, however, it could take up to and over a year before it's processed. I do have the alternative of filing direct with...

Re: UK state pension and USA social security

I just got back from the Social Security office. First of all you have to pass through security, just like at the airport but even worse. They are a lot more thorough. Luckily I had an appointment...

Thanks to everyone for their replies. It seems that if I want to get it through customs I'd have to take a chance. Plus either you love it or hate it, something like Marmite (which I love). Sorry, I...

That's what I was afraid of. Must have been a reason why you can't get it here. I'll just have to fill up the suitcase with something else. Thanks.

Yup, just posh cheese in a tube. The prawn one is the best. Brings back memories of when I was a wee bairn many moons ago.
