Re: Importing personal items to Portugal

You're right of course, it's largely stuff that if I had to buy again new would run into the small £1000s but second hand value would be not be much at all. I had thought about getting a value from...

Re: Importing personal items to Portugal

Importing personal items to Portugal

When we moved to Portugal 5 years ago we kept our house in the UK together with some personal effects which we locked in the attic whilst the property was let. We're now thinking of selling the UK...

Re: The weather up north!

I don't live near Tomar but winters can be chilly in the centre. Someone on here described Portugal as a cold country with hot sun - which is about right. Tomar (and Santarem district generally)...

Re: Moving from London to Madeira -- any removal service?

In the Uk it was a company called UK Mail who are a part of...wait for it...DHL. Can't recall who they used locally. To be fair I did send some contracts from PT to Uk using DHL's overnight service...

Re: Moving from London to Madeira -- any removal service?

A word of caution, several years ago before the Brexit cluster**** I bought some garden chairs (ie. one biggish box) when I was in the UK and had them collected by a large courier company for...

Re: wind-chill in Portugal

A cold country with hot sun is spot on. Winters are surprisingly harsh. East wind tends to be the worst. I'm sure we all know the saying about bad winds and bad marriages coming from the East. ...

Re: Booster Covid jabs

With the numbers as they are and the predicted growth especially around Christmas, I think it's only a matter of time before they start to vaccinate under 65s with a third, or if you had the J&J...

Re: COVID TESTING FOR ENTERING ENGLAND

Not actually a test for entering but rather a test to be taken after arrival. Interesting how the UK government's guidance consistently elides England and the UK.

Re: MEO

Yes I am a good distance from the exchange and unfortunately I don't get a consistent mobile signal (sometimes its 8mbps others 80kb) either. The 1.6mb is pretty constant except when its hot, cold,...

I get 1.6mbps on a good day on ADSL with MEO despite paying for 24mbps. There seems to be no prospect anytime soon of fibre in my village in central Portugal although it was installed 4 or 5 years...

Re: Packages from outside EU

Why bother? It's a hassle. Plenty of choice from within the EU. Some basic due diligence on Amazon.es shows from where the item is dispatched. Interesting that there is an active thread...

Re: Brexit - Residency - new Biometric cards - slight update

A bit strange as I spoke to a SEF officer at Lisbon airport last week and he said that they have already started to be issued and he had actually seen them at the border control!

Re: Teabags!

Particularly appropriate as tea-drinking was introduced to the English by the wife of Charles II, Catherine of Braganza, who was Portuguese!

Re: Travelling UK to Portugal August - NO problems at all

I think that there are two separate systems in the UK - a) if you are pinged by the app and, b) if you are contacted by NHS test and trace and told that you need to self-isolate. If you are...

Re: Travelling UK to Portugal August - NO problems at all

Of course you're right there is a huge amount of inconsistency, particularly as it was only on day 3 that she was contacted by trace and test and had been going about her normal business until then. ...
