Re: Why we left New Zealand

Great post. Sadly, however, nothing seems to have changed in NZ - we left NZ way back in 2001 after 3-ish years living in Auckland, and only because of the wages versus cost of living.

Re: New Zealand Hype

Being a QS, you should well and the pay should be good. I was a QS when I went to NZ in 1999 (left in 2001, but have been back for holidays many times since), but since returning to the UK, have...

Re: 9 years ago

Blade Down Under - Thank you so much for sharing. Made me stop and think about those that did perish and those that continue to suffer.

Re: $95k in Auckland

I find it hard to believe that $95,000 pa would purchase even a reasonable standard of living in Auckland, unless you are mortgage free. Yes, I have not lived or worked in Auckland since 2001 (been...

Re: Expat migrants in NZ - map

Mrs Fychan - Whereabouts are you in Pukerua Bay? I use to live in Rawhiti Road (tennis club end) when I was a whipper snapper back in the seventies!

Obviously it is what you get used to and take for granted whilst living in an area / country. Having left NZ some years ago now, I still miss fish and chips, which IMO, was superb and the UK does...

Re: Heres a good one.

No need to worry - your contract is with the builder, not the concrete supplier. Even if the concrete supplier had a valid retention of title (often referred to as a Romalpa clause in legal circles)...

Re: Hi One and All!!!!!

Another Irons supporter here! Family seat is Canning Town! When I was living on the North Shore, along the East Coast Road was a house with a WHU flag flying on the staff! Best of luck...

Re: Any of you a QS/Estimator in NZ

I was a QS (until I re-qualified as a Lawyer !). I emigrated to NZ in late 1998 (based in Auckland), and came back in 2001, but have visited NZ a couple of times since then, and have kept in...

Re: Cost of Housing in mount wellington

Where about are you in Pukerua bay? Just interested as I grew up there in the 70's, and my parents built a house in Rawhiti Road (tennis club end).

Re: Mass exodus

Well Genesis, personally I believe that the exodus from NZ is to do with the good wines we now have in MH!

...and I lived very close to Ilford (Chadwell Heath, just off Barley Lane) in the late eighties!

I will seek out Nick next time I am buying my wine!

Re: NZ's future..does it have one?

Very spookey! Mind you, I could write at least a chapter on 'spookiness', like the time we were in Hawaii in May 1990, and went to an organised beach BBQ and guess what? Our best Kiwi friends, who...

Re: NZ's future..does it have one?

I must admit, when we were living in Auckland, we were beach (and BBQ) bums! Loved it. But on deciding to return, we were determined not to dwell on what we had left behind (or look back through...

Re: NZ's future..does it have one?

Genesis,

If income / money was not an issue, I'll still be living in NZ, so you are preaching to the converted (I know Parmy well - one of my best Kiwi mates lives in Fielding).

And although I...

Re: NZ's future..does it have one?

You kidding?

I live close to Northampton (well, between Northampton and Leicester), and before I returned from NZ (10 years ago), had never stepped foot in the east Midlands. I remain amazed how...

Re: Possibly heading back to UK in July

Whatever you decide, please make sure you get at least an indefinite resident returning visa - it may not be high on your 'to do' list, but you will regret it in future years to come.

We left in...

Re: NZ's future..does it have one?

Re: Possibly heading back to UK in July

Why not start your own business or purchase one / buy into an existing one?
