Re: Sat Nav Recommendations

I've had 2 Garmin Nuvis - one in the UK & one here as it was as cheap to buy a new unit as to buy new maps!

Re: Women and their clothes...

We're two 30-something IT professionals who've been in Melbourne for a few months. We recently started working for two different banks at their headquarters in the city so I can offer my first...

Re: Do you find Australia boring/dull?

No, but I guess it depends where you are and where you came from. We left Poole (mis-sized UK town) for Melbourne and it is definitely much less dull in Australia. That said, in our travels round...

Re: Which is better? Toploader or frontloader!

I'd only ever used front loaders in the UK and our rental apartment here has a top loader. I think the top loader is rubbish at actually cleaning the clothes - the cycle is very quick and good if...

Re: Australia's housing affordability myth busted ?

We're not considering buying for a while yet but I'd like to be able to keep an eye on the situation in the areas we're interested in. I'd like to investigate specific areas, rather than the general...

Re: IELTS is a month enough

I can't imagine how a native English speaker would actually go about studying for the IELTS test? Seriously, if you read the instructions and stay calm you'll be fine.

Re: Best pre-paid plan for mobile network data for an iPhone

We got Optus SIM cards for our unlocked iPhones - I think its something like a Turbo Cap plan. Can't say its 100% the cheapest but it seems reasonable for calls and data and we've had coverage...

Re: Question - UK drivers licence

I changed my UK licence to a Victorian one just last week.

I've been here about 3 months, called up VicRoads to make an appointment and went to their office. At the appointment I filled in a form...

Re: Dump, Sell or Take?

I'd use the rule that everyone recommends on here - if you haven't used it for 12 months then don't bring it.

There's a gumtree site for each city (Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane etc) and they're...

Re: permanent visa granted, I'm looking for a job and I keep receiving negative respo

Sounds like great news! Can I ask which company you're working for?

We've been here since October basically exploring and settling in. Job hunting starts in earnest now - initial impressions are...

Re: Dump, Sell or Take?

Agree that furnished rentals are extremely hard to find

We've been here for about 10 weeks and our stuff has just arrived. The main thing we're finding is how much stuff we now have 2 of as we had...

Re: reclaiming tax when leaving the UK

I wanted to add that we reclaimed using the P85 form when we left the UK in October last year and received our repayments direct into our banks in December. The whole thing was remarkable...
