Re: "After-schooling" in English

We only put our children back in to the British system at the start of GCSE and A level courses, so 2 years at Montessori and then, because TEM didn't do A levels, 2 years at Hastings. I don't know...

Re: "After-schooling" in English

My wife (English) is a teacher in the state system west of Madrid and several schools she has been at have gone bilingual over recent years. Several of our children have been through the schools...

Re: Plus Size Clothes Or Bigger Sizes in Spain

I've been using them for shirts and trousers for years, the occasional coat/suit. Brilliant. Tend to use Jacamo for casual stuff. Most of the large stores around Madrid tend to have a Talleres...

Re: What Spanish Goodies are you having this Christmas.

We've done a variety:
Christmas back in the UK with family, perhaps spread over a couple of locations and days;
Christmas Day lunch at a Spanish restaurant with no Anglo trimmings;
Christmas lunch...

Re: GB Pound v. Euro Exchange rates

Movements in exchange rates cost us about £40k when we were finally able to transfer funds from the sale of our UK house to buy the house we'd already committed to. Fixing an advance rate would have...

Re: Freelance Engineer - Help on signing for IVA and IRPF

I know some of the people involved in IFA Voice and will probably take a closer look soon at their insurance deals. I know they're keen on the Europe angle and weren't getting the PCG in the UK to...

Re: Quesada - Very British

Brilliant. If they didn't want the sights and sounds of a town they shouldn't have moved in to one, should they? But if they'd moved to a place without neighbours they'd not have been able to...

Re: Freelance Engineer - Help on signing for IVA and IRPF

We set up a Spanish Ltd co and both work as autonomo through that. It's not as convenient as the UK Ltd Co setup. There's no IR35 equivalent in Spain, but then there aren't the same NI/social...

Re: 'natural' childbirth in Spain shock horror....?

There's a great clinic in a village between Valencia and Alicante which does the full British style range of natural options. Our nr 5 was born there and we were driving home to Madrid just over...

Re: Drink Driving

As said by people in arguments about the earth going around the sun, mankind flying, mankind travelling faster than 30mph, man on the moon, evolution, etc, etc. Right up to the point when they...

Re: Drink Driving

Andy clearly wouldn't be driving if he were in the same state as you saw people in Chiclana, from what he was saying, so I don't think you'd need to be warned if he were on roads in your area.

Do...

Re: Attitude to Franco

Indeed, the last statue in Madrid of Franco was removed in the middle of the night with little warning a couple of years ago. Previous attempts had generated opposition.

Road names are changed...

Re: Ivan was right!

Are prices even down to 2005 levels yet? If they went up only 10% a year since then, they'd have to have dropped 20% to 34% to be back down where he made his warning. Anyone who bought...

Re: Is Madrid safe??

Agree with pretty much everyone although I don't spend much time around the centre. Watch out for people approaching you with distraction tactics and invading your personal space, or leaving your...

Re: Wine

Ouch those prices! Thankfully, Spain is not only good value for wine thanks to a much lower level of duty than the UK, but it has such a variety of wines that there's pretty much something to suit...

Re: Madrid visitors - ideas please ?

I agree with the idea of getting out a bit, but wouldn't necessarily go to another city, especially if flying in to Madrid. A day trip out to El Escorial and maybe one of the mountain towns like...
