Re: VPN for BBC iplayer

Following recommendations on here, I signed up to SmartDNS about a year ago. It has occasional blips, but in general I can watch all the Uk catchups and live streams.

My brother (in UL) also has a...

Is this car worth a punt?

I'm looking for a cheap car. I have spotted this on FB. It certainly fits the 'cheap' criteria, plus big enough for kids, equipment etc. Could anyone even speculate as to what the problem might be,...

Re: Sole Trader, or Small Business?

It sure is :)

At least I think it is ... I'm waiting for a mate who is a web designer to spare some time to double check my efforts.

Re: Sole Trader, or Small Business?

Thanks Dreamy and GarryP.

I have indeed targeted home working right now - perhaps not as well as I can, but that's down to experience. My web page home screen shows 'remote secure non-contact...

Sole Trader, or Small Business?

I suppose a sole trader is a small business, but anyway ...

I've just set myself up as a sole trader, offering all kinds of IT/network support, health checks, upgrades, etc. My focus right now is...

Re: Freedom of Information/Data protection/getting info

I had a look into that option following your suggestion. It seems there's no such thing as a CAB, at least in NSW (looks like WA have them), but I may be able to call LawAccess NSW (Legal Aid). I...

Freedom of Information/Data protection/getting info

I used to know a good amount about data protection back home, but I can't find any clear guidance about my specific need here:

My ex wife has written to my son's preschool about me, stating why...

Coronavirus - how's everyone doing?

Anyone sick? Everyone well? Anyone stressed? Anyone care?!

Now that grass-roots AFL has been cancelled, the Auskick centre I help out at has pushed back the start of the season until the end of...

Re: VPN for BBC iplayer

I gave SmartDNS a try and it has been working very well 99% of the time.

When I tested their VPN service its performance was appalling, but you don't need that to be able to watch iPlayer, etc.,...

Any forex/currency geeks out there? (GBP/AUD)

My pension pot is still back home, being invested and held in £. I always keep my eye on the £/$ rate, and it is trickling up again, so I am considering shifting it from £ to $ (though it has to...

Re: Topping up your National Insurance Contributions

Another useful link. Thank you :) I've just followed the link and given it a try.

Based on current contributions I'm forecast to get £119.90/week. To get the full forecast of £168.60/week I'll...

Re: Topping up your National Insurance Contributions

Thanks for that. I have put a lot of consideration into my private pension pot, but hadn't even considered the state pension. I've been away for 7 1/2 years now so I guess I have a little catching up...

Re: Bedding - do you use the same size or one size bigger?

That makes sense. So I guess for my queen size bed then I have a kind size duvet? I could ask the wife, but her communication is about as good at the duvet itself.

I have actually found two double...

Bedding - do you use the same size or one size bigger?

Yeah, I know it is a bit of a random question!

My wife (separated) always got duvets one size bigger than the bed. I designed and made the boys' beds king single size, so she got double-size...

Re: Advise a non-mechanic - what to look for when buying a used car?

Thanks for the advice y'all.

I've ruled out the old banger Chery. The air con doesn't work. I can buy it as is for $1500, but the tyres will need replacing soon too. I've seen a Fiesta that is...

Re: Advise a non-mechanic - what to look for when buying a used car?

That's a great checklist, thanks :)

The Chery in question has 134,000km. The Skoda has 200,000km, but is a diesel, so do I understand correctly that this is fine for a diesel?

Advise a non-mechanic - what to look for when buying a used car?

As I'm applying for more jobs now, I'm finding myself in that damn cycle - can't get a job without a car, can't get a car without a job... so I'm looking at some el-cheapo bangers just to get me...
