Re: Let's talk about cars

I agree - I have a BMW M850i convertible and a Tesla Model 3 LR AWD and to be honest I've barely used the BMW since getting the Tesla and I've kind of lost interest in driving it. We drove down to...

Re: Let's talk about cars

Surely if you can charge at home then this is a total contradiction? You just plug it in when you get home at night and wake up with more than enough range and never have to go to a gas station...?

Re: Transferring money from UK to US

Re: SB-1 Visa - valid reasons?

There's no list of valid reasons that I'm aware of.

SB-1 visas are incredibly difficult to get and judging by your other thread I don't think you have much chance.

Re: Transferring money from UK to US

I can almost guarantee a high street bank will charge you more than Wise will to do the conversion.

Bringing a suitcase of GBP to the USA isn't very useful, how are you going to convert it when...

Re: Which eligibility category to choose for EAD I-765

Correct, no fee. You don't HAVE to do it but it's free and it gives you options if your visa expires (and lets your 20 year old work if they want to) so it would be silly not to.

Make sure you...

Re: US tax on transfering GBP to US bank account?

No, just moving cash from the UK isn't a taxable event.

Don't forget to report your accounts on FBAR and Form 8938 if you meet the thresholds when filing your 2022 taxes.

Re: Shipping cars UK to US

I wouldn't be so sure about that... if it's permanent I don't think you'll be able to do it without a lot of hassle and expense. North American specification vehicles have lots of differences...

Re: Green Card Holder Citizenship Application Timeline & Travel Restrictions

Absolutely although the OP did say 'marriage based residency' so I sort of assumed that was the case!

Re: Green Card Holder Citizenship Application Timeline & Travel Restrictions

1. You're eligible now under the 3 year rule because you're married to a US citizen and will be eligible in a few weeks under the 5 year rule - see here:...

Re: Status whilst waiting for receipt number

Please check this because I could be wrong but I thought the automatic EAD extension was only applicable if you were renewing an EAD - you're applying for a new one under a different eligibility...

Re: E2 Visa Help

It sounds like you're in a very precarious position...

1. Don't know but if the change of status has been denied I don't know where that leaves you.

2. I believe this is correct and no you...

Re: Covid test re entry 1 day before

Nope, you can use a rapid test.

Look at the CDC website: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/testing-international-air-travelers.html

Re: Covid test re entry 1 day before

No, it can't be older than one calendar day before you depart.

Do you realize that you can use a lateral flow test as long as it's proctored (i.e. somebody watches you do it)? There are tests that...

I don't know that it's the normal procedure to get the naturalization certificate in the mail - perhaps they had printing problems on the day your husband had his interview?

Re: Fbar and ISA question

Even if it was below the limit for FBAR/8938 reporting you should still have reported and paid tax on any dividends - the ISA doesn't shield it from US taxation.

Re: UK citizen working as independent contractor in the US

If you're British I'm a bit surprised you're eligible for a H-4 EAD at all? EB-1, 2 and 3 are all current at the moment.

Unfortunately she isn't eligible and it's pretty clearly spelled out in the actual text of the proclamation. The ESTA will be canceled as soon as she tries to check in anyway - it'll be a wasted trip...

Re: Going back home for a week - what COVID tests do I need?

You get the BinaxHome test while you're still in the USA and take it with you - they don't ship outside the country. Yes they are antigen tests, the other type of test is a PCR test but the UK and US...
