Re: Skilled Workers Earn a Pittance in Canada.

Wow, what a comment.

I don't even know how to respond to such a racist and offensive comment!!![/QUOTE]

...and what of the racism against highly skilled immigrants, which forces surgeons and...

Re: Moving to Ontario with PR

No. You can apply without one. Don't tell them you don't have it yet, until they've hired you. It'll just put them off.
The key to getting work here is to ring companies (or go in person), tell them...

Re: How do you reach a decision to return to the UK??

It's not been a difficult decision for us.
We both love Britain and miss it dearly.
In my opinion (before anyone starts slagging me off!) Canada is very boring. There just isn't anything to do...

Re: Alternative Viewpoint

I think you're being a little unfair to say the least. The reason perhaps you're fed up of Britain is because it's not your home, SA is?
Having lived abroad now for over a year, I know for a fact...

Re: Moving to Ontario with PR

Don't bother about that. Apply for jobs now, network, take your resume into companies and harrass them into giving you an interview. It's hard work finding work here so don't wait until you receive...

Re: Skilled Workers Earn a Pittance in Canada.

I've suspected this also. Canadians prefer workers from the 3rd world because it makes them look good. I'm sure most are terrified when they get a resume from a Brit with UK degrees and international...

Re: Skilled Workers Earn a Pittance in Canada.

Isn't this what I said all along?
I'm qualified as an electrician in Britain, but I couldn't even get accepted as an apprentice here. Said I was too old (at 30???)
I would gladly have...

Re: Interesting Website

Yes, however I bet you're more likely to be murdered in Calgary than Leeds or Manchester.
As far as unemployment is concerned, most (95%?) of the unemployed in Britain don't want to work or are...

Re: Interesting Website

I would definately have to agree with you on crime.
I can see why murder would be worse in Canada (a lot of hunters, a lot of guns) and close proximity to the US.
As far as everything else is...

Re: Danforth Area - Toronto - What's it Like?

Hi,

I used to live right on the Danforth, close to Broadview!! :D
It's a fantastic area, lots of great bars and Greek Tavernas. There's a fantastic atmosphere to the place which I'm sure you'll...

Re: Elderly parents in poor health. What chance of getting into Canada ???

Sorry, I don't really know much about the matter, but are you sure the government in Canada would pay for their health care and prescriptions?
Prescriptions here are very expensive, especially if...

Interesting Website

Hello everyone!

I don't know if I'm allowed to do this, however a friend of mine told me about a very good website which allows you to compare different nations in terms of crime, wealth, taxation...

Re: What are we going back to? Are New Labour really the Conservatives

We'll have to agree to disagree.
I don't think Labour are anything like the Tories.
Could you really imagine Maggie Thatcher introducing the minimum wage?

I agree, there is NOTHING wrong with Canada, it just isn't for me.
I probably could have overcome problems relating to my lack of Canadian credentials, however I was not...

I used to live on Hyde Road. It was a very long time ago though. :)
I lived in Hull and Leeds after that.

I used to be a chav myself many, many years ago! :scared:
Never had an ASBO though, in fact I don't think there was such a thing in 1990!

Re: What would you change (if you could) about canada?

It is shameful yes. I also know of companies in Britain that employ foreigners and don't even pay them minimum wage.
I'm not justifying this, however there is a difference. If you have skills, it's...

Re: English 'Pub' not a copy...lol

I love all that type of thing! :D
I'm sure most of those hauntings are just nonsense, but it's fun going on ghost walks and having a drink in a haunted pub!
The ghost tours in Edinburgh are a...

Sausage Rolls?

Does anyone know where you can buy sausage rolls or pasties in Canada?
I'm ashamed to say, I love Gregs pasties and have missed them dearly since moving to Canada. Can you buy something similar here?

Re: English 'Pub' not a copy...lol

I'd love to visit the Mermaid Inn in Rye. Apparently it's the most haunted pub in England! :D
