Re: The Four months of not winter - 2020

Had a nice snowfall yesterday here, with all the predictable accidents. Beautiful blue skies today with the snow sparkling, although it is starting to melt.

Re: Truro nova scotia

It has all gone a bit nuts in and around the Halifax area - and I would put Truro in the catchment area. We live in a three bedroom, top floor apartment. My in-laws moved in with us for a while which...

Re: Is a move even possible

I am curious as to what it is you think Canada has to offer that the UK doesn't? If you are considering this type of move, you need to have a much more concrete set of criteria than a better quality...

Re: Trudeau

I think at some point the liberal party will get rid of him. There has to be a moment when a line is crossed, one would have thought.

I can't see the conservatives winning an election as they...

Re: Any truth to this blog post?

I have never been able to make leasing stack up against financing, even when I have been self-employed. However, if I were in the market for some of these upscale luxury cars with all the hi-tech, or...

Re: Should I move back to the UK?

I guess my question would be whether you have revalued what you had in Japan and whether that would be better to go back to? What about your career plan? Where would it be better served?

Re: real estate prices in Canada sustainable?

I guess that at least has some reason behind it given that a large volume of people want to be in the GTA. What I don't get is how it is happening in Halifax and how Halifax has suddenly gone from a...

Re: real estate prices in Canada sustainable?

The market in Halifax seems to be a bit nuts just now... people queueing up for viewings (at least pre lockdown) and gazumping eachother. I guess it is not helped by the insane increase in rental...

Re: UN Security Council Seat

Slap it right into him. I would love to think we might see some humility, and perhaps some substance from him, but I won't hold my breath.

Re: Changing work & toil direction as mature adults. - A discussion.

Great thing to have done. I hope JSmith and wife are able to get the fresh start they need.

Re: So is this what 'homesickness' feels like?.....

No good name: some of what you have written resonates with me. I had just hit the sweet spot in my career where I could say I had arrived, the future was fairly nailed on (assuming I did not get lazy...

Re: Changing work & toil direction as mature adults. - A discussion.

I just had the displeasure of a visit to Sobeys and I was appalled at what I witnessed, inside and out. A second wave is inevitable on this evidence.

Re: Coronavirus

I agree with a lot of that. But there are some strange things afoot in the UK. How, for example, does one read the daily whingeing in the Guardian, and the BTL comments, and reconcile that with...

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

Lots of really good research out on this now. My mother in law is coeliac, so had been eating things with the likes of corn flour in them (the usual substitute for those who want to be gluten free)....

Re: Mosquitoes

I am in NS too and can report my first bite of the year. I was out for a run last night, there was a decent breeze, and I found some wee so-and-so on the back of my hand getting wired in. Northern...

Re: Top Reasons to Move (and Not Move) to Canada

That made me laugh. This week I had another example of asking someone a question, pretty damned specific as well, and they wrote back with a wonderful answer to a completely different question....

Re: Apple74's questions about Nova Scotia

Glad you have found it helpful. I quoted this part of your message because I want to emphasise that this is not the case at all. By the time warm weather comes around here, the UK has usually had two...

Re: Apple74's questions about Nova Scotia

I live in Halifax and my question would be why do you want to give up a nice sounding situation to move here? Could you not consider periodically taking a longer trip here?

Some things I have...

Re: Move to New Brunswick or???

I looked back over this thread and I am not sure why one would conclude it is grumpy and negative. It has, I think, been encouraging, with some common sense caveats and things to think about that are...

Re: Nova Scotia Shooting/shooter.

Terrible stuff. My colleagues and I had a call from our regional director today to see if we were ok, which was a nice touch. I was a little shocked at how shocked my colleagues were even though they...

Re: Budgeting for Canada

Shrewd comment this. It was said above that some may find it easier to enjoy Canada living outside the country because the paid holidays are so low and the daily cost of living can be quite high. One...

Re: Coronavirus

I...erm... hesitate to ask but do you have any sources to back those claims up? It is obvious from looking at him that he could do with shedding a few pounds, but whence the cocaine habit rumours?
