Re: International Auto Source

What does the order that you signed say? If the car they are saying they've ordered is different to the signed order form then you're entitled to your deposit back I'd say.

Re: Travelguard - AIG . Any reviews?

Yes we got it free when we bought our car through IAS. They were by far the lowest insurance quote we got (still a lot of money mind you).
Didn't use them for anything else.

Quit job on H1b - what to do re visa?

As you may have seen on another thread, my wife obtained an H1b and we moved to NY for her to start a new job. She has since quit and we have returned to the UK.
The question I have is - do we need...

Re: Your experience of US schools vs. UK schools

My kids were in Year 1 (6 years old this February) and Year 5 (10 years old this coming August) in the UK. In the US, due to their ages, they went into Kindergarten and 4th Grade. They are doing...

Re: Help/advice - may need to call it a day

I see. No, nothing like that. This wasn't an intra company relocation. It was a new job at a new firm so no relocation help other than they paid for shipping, lent us the money for the security...

Re: Help/advice - may need to call it a day

Thanks. In the end, that's what it's come down to.
They're also in the process of recruiting someone that will slot in between her and her boss so even if she could stick it out for a couple of...

Re: Help/advice - may need to call it a day

So it looks like we'll be returning to the UK. Wife needs to have one final discussion with her boss pointing out the impossibility of her work schedule, calendar in hand so he can see in black and...

Re: New York State driving licence - info for you

Ha ha. I see.
No, I guess the UK license isn't valid but then the NYS DMV have no way of knowing that and purely for the exercise of getting a license without needing a supervising driver I don't...

Re: New York State driving licence - info for you

Well, this is from my experience having tried to take the test in January and then taking (and passing) the test yesterday.
Nothing more, nothing less.
Things may or may not have changed since...

New York State driving licence - info for you

I needed to get my NYS driver's license and had seen numerous pieces of advice on how to get it, whether you have to hand your UK license in, "forget" to take it with you so they can't etc etc.
So,...

Re: Help/advice - may need to call it a day

Her colleague suggested they both go and speak to their boss but I'm not sure that's such a good idea.
Might just come across as ganging up or group moaning. I think she needs to do it on her own...

Re: Help/advice - may need to call it a day

Yep, bang on.
She's looked in her diary for the rest of the year and can't see that it will ease up. She can't even see when she won't need to work weekends, let alone take any vacation. What's the...

Re: Help/advice - may need to call it a day

Probably Pulaski. Although as said earlier her and her colleague really hold all the cards, even though it doesn't feel like it. If either one left (and my wife said last night her colleague almost...

Re: Help/advice - may need to call it a day

Unfortunately that's just not her way. If it needs doing she'll do it. It wouldn't reflect well on her professionally either with the people in the work groups/boards.
Her colleague was told to get...

Re: Help/advice - may need to call it a day

Thanks Retzie.
No, it's not fun and my wife really does want to make it work and do well.
I don't think we have anything to lose either. If they know then they might sort it, if they think she's...

Re: Help/advice - may need to call it a day

Thanks again for your responses.

I'm not even sure her boss is aware exactly how many hours she's having to do as he either hides away in his office, he's out of the office or she's doing a lot of...

Re: Help/advice - may need to call it a day

So, as I'm typing this my wife is working away in the study at home and it's gone midnight. No doubt she'll be leaving the house in a few hours to go to the office too.

It's looking more and more...

Re: Help/advice - may need to call it a day

Thanks for your input.
Yes, sometimes it's just not worth it.
If necessary we are prepared to go back to the UK without jobs, rent a place, get the kids in school (hopefully their old one) and then...

Re: Help/advice - may need to call it a day

You know what, you're right. Just depends if they see it that way. If she leaves they will be in the sh#t and none of the projects will be done on time.
I've asked if they'll get someone in quick...
