Re: Moving to Portland oregon

Why, it is factual information about one part of the area the OP was considering living in. I guess you think anything that offends your sensibilities shouldn't be posted. As the councils policies...

Re: Moving to Portland oregon

While in general I would agree in Portland's case I think it should be considered, as the council policies can have an effect on the quality of life.

For example in order to reduce green house...

Re: Moving to Portland oregon

That CNN article is spot on. Problem with the local left wing nut jobs, like the Mayors of Portland and Milwaukie, is you are not allowed to disagree with them, As the mayor of Milwaukie once said,...

Micro Chips on US Credit Cards

Mrs L dropped her credit card onto the tiles in our kitchen and the micro chip came off. Seems like these are only stuck onto an indentation on the surface of the card and not a permanent part of the...

Re: Pet Insurance

We went with PetPlan. Like you difficult to find everything we wanted but the dog came from the shelter with a free month to Petplan, and our vet liked them, so we stuck with them. Can't comment...

Re: Moving to Portland oregon

Where the job is makes a difference as to where to live. The west side is the expensive side and US26 is a nightmare most days at rush hour. The east side is cheaper and perhaps not as nice, or as...

Re: Retiring warm somewhere near the coast, suggestions?

If you are looking at Oregon, only look at the very southern coast. The rest of the coast is often 10 or more degrees colder than the Willamette Valley and not as sunny, as well as being overcast and...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Interestingly when I used my US contactless card in the UK this month I got over the £30 limit. It seemed the US limit applied wherever the card was used.

Re: Karma to Enterprise at Manchester Airport

The one on the airport and the other one nearby I knew of are closed with all the building work going on at the airport. There is a Shell on Styal Rd but with all the road changes I even got lost...

Karma to Enterprise at Manchester Airport

I picked a rental up at Manchester this month and prepaid for a tank of diesel. When I dropped it off there was half a tank left, which was my loss. Just seen a refund on my credit card from...

Re: Transferwise fees

They are still cheaper than they were. While the fee has indeed gone up it is still lower than it was last year, before they lowered the cost. Which was why I thought it hadn't gone up.

Re: Transferwise fees

I just checked the fee for my normally monthly exchange and it is lower than it was up until a couple of months ago when they lowered their fees. The fee quoted just now is the same as the new lower...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

I use Delta Vacations and bundle the flight tickets and car rental into a package. The Audi with CDW cost me $153 for 15 days.

Most of the airlines do package deals, as does Expedia.

Re: Formula 1 fans?

I’d like to know on what grounds as you cannot appeal a 5 second time penalty.

Re: Formula 1 fans?

Only a poor penalty if you buy the BS Vettel came out with to explain it. Or did he drive like Schumacher and was really try to block Hamilton deliberately. Personally I think he is a cheating piece...

Re: UK Pensions related to UK/US Tax Treaty

There are been several theories put forward on possible ways to avoid the tax on the 25% lump sum. To my knowledge no-one has followed any of those paths and been audited. I suspect some have been...

Re: Children's Car Seats

Someone correct if I wrong. UK child seats do not have a strap that goes across the chest, US ones do. That I was told by AAA makes each one illegal in the other country.
