Re: Short Intro

Hi M AND G!

We are actually moving premises this weekend and the new shop is on Vetrinjska ulica (number 5). Almost opposite the Elektro Maribor offices.

Re: ski-ing

Just in case anyone is thinking of trying Currylife Figovec, I heard last week that it has closed now.

Re: Sausage wars still simmering

Alas I can't try the orehovec as I am allergic to nuts. Shame as we found several bottles of homemade orehovec in our new house when we moved in. The old lady that had lived in it was a bit of a...

Re: Sausage wars still simmering

Ha! That's v sneaky - but clever. That design def has a Japanese look. Have you heard about the Slovenian vodka that is being promoted in the States? A friend also bought me a bottle of Slovenian...

Re: Sausage wars still simmering

I agree. It seems to me that this sort of thing is something the EU can and should be usefully involved in. It's a shame that retailers aren't more discerning about the products they'll stock.

Maribor's European City for Youth on hold

http://www.sloveniatimes.com/european-youth-capital-project-on-hold

Was sad to hear that this project is currently on hold. However, I did look at the EYC website a couple of months back and did...

Re: Sausage wars still simmering

I forgot to add that the homophobic attitude of UKIP is another major turn off - not that I needed another reason to find it a ridiculous party.

Re: Sausage wars still simmering

I don't think I could vote for any party that had that idiot Nigel Farage in charge of it. UKIP would impose bigger cuts to public services than the Tories and are a bunch of no hopers.

Re: Sausage wars still simmering

While it might seem on the surface of it crazy for the EU to be involved in such matters, protecting a country's commercial interests in this way isn't that daft. Shouldn't the authenticity of a...

Re: Reform Plan: Higher VAT Unofficially / Real Estate Tax

Yeah, it seems like most of the proposed measures are about trying to stave off a bail out and there's not much going on to boost the economy in spite of recent promises to start looking at...

Re: Reform Plan: Higher VAT Unofficially / Real Estate Tax

Wasn't a real estate tax mooted a little while back?

The daft thing is that the land is only worth what someone will pay for it and nobody is buying. I don't see how they can really make this work.

Re: Looking for low cost of living seaside location in Europe

Yay! Well said all - :D

I would happily re-locate to Hungary. We sometimes fly into Hungary on our way to our place in Slovenia and spend a couple of days in Hungary tootling around first. We love...

I think one of the hardest things about learning a new language for adults who didn't learn one at school is to get...

Re: planning for the Slovenian euro crisis

I had this explained yesterday and I was kind of on the right lines.

If Slovenia comes out of the Euro they'll have to issue their own currency. Germany is the country least likely to leave the...

Re: planning for the Slovenian euro crisis

So we can expect higher taxes and further cuts to public sector salaries. The Troika knew there was a lot of money squirreled away in Cyprus and so insisted that the Cypriot government did something...

Re: planning for the Slovenian euro crisis

Presumably only for larger balances?

I think it'll be worth having some cash available as one of the problems in Cyprus was that people were finding it difficult to get cash from the machines,...

Re: planning for the Slovenian euro crisis

I am probably being a bit dim (the economy isn't really my subject, but give me a spelling question and I come into my own) but why German Euros?

I think I know but not sure - I heard when Cyprus...

Re: planning for the Slovenian euro crisis

Re: planning for the Slovenian euro crisis

We keep only enough Euros in our Slovenian account to be able to pay our monthly direct debits for the bills.

I can't see a one off tax such as that originally mooted in Cyprus would be levied on...

Re: Thatcher Dead

You mean characters like Dennis Skinner? A fine constituency MP but never someone who would shape policy (alas). Those people were quickly squeezed out by the New Labourites

Re: Thatcher Dead

I'd love to see a change in the sort of people that become MPs; in my opinion we need fewer career politicians and more people who come armed with a wealth of experience in different fields who want...

Re: Thatcher Dead

You can blame her for what was left behind. Parts of the north east of England, for example, have never recovered. She also promoted a culture of greed and selfishness which is still in evidence...
