When I rang the shipping companies to get a quote I told them that I had already packed all our house up and only wanted them to quote me to load into a 20 foot container and do the usual stuff...

We used John Masons, £2300 for a 20 foot container. We packed everything ourselves though, so all we needed was for the guys to load the container!
My advice would be to bring everything you can,...

Unfortunately they will only enforce it if there is a maintenance order in place by the courts, so I guess that if I want to try and collect anything for the kids I have to spend out on a day in...

Yes, Letton Percival will give you marine insurance and you can change the amount that you want to insure with them, but the premium may go up obviously.

Thanks for the advice guys, have decided to get 3 quotes, Excess International, John Masons and PSS. Found that trying to get a freight forwarder on the NZ side was going to work out almost exactly...
