Re: Who else is concerned about trip to UK for Christmas with family?

I could be wrong, but the only people currently being admitted to the US are US Citizens and LPRs. That's probably why.

Re: Who else is concerned about trip to UK for Christmas with family?

Yep. Unless something insane happens, I'll be spending Christmas there, and will be taking sensible precautions. Although, I should add that both me and my folks are in low-COVID areas at the moment....

Re: Travelled to UK during Covid

That does make some sense - probably some of the only people on these transatlantic flights right now will be immigrants visiting family or people in similar situations. Americans aren’t going to...

Re: Travelled to UK during Covid

Not direct, I’m guessing? That’s where I’m gonna head to and as far as I know, the only BA flights connect in London?

Re: Travelled to UK during Covid

Thanks for this. For the good of my mental health, I'm probably going to take a socially distanced trip to see the folks. This answers my question on whether it's worth paying for business class or...

Re: Travelling to the UK since Covid -- any experiences?

Great thread, and I imagine more of us are going to be asking these questions as Christmas comes up.

Like everything, we have to weigh up the pros and cons and make smart decisions with the info...

Re: Anyone find a financial advisor with understanding of UK<->US finance?

Hi all
Thanks for the pointers. I've been dealing with FBAR for a few years now - why the fear of it? Isn't that just the simple form where you report the largest balance in any foreign bank account...

Question Anyone find a financial advisor with understanding of UK<->US finance?

Hi forumers,
I'm a US green card holder and aside from short visits back to the UK for business and to see the folks, I spend 95% of my time Stateside.
My original plan was to move my savings...

Re: Money Transfer UK to US

Reading from other people who are in the same boat as me is therapeutic, I must say. For a brief period when I first came to the US, the rate was 1.7. Try not to think about that!

Fingers crossed...

Re: Leaving UK - too young? thoughts

Absolutely not. Go do it. It's rare that people regret the things they DID do.

Re: Saying Goodbye To Your Fur Kids

My condolences. About two weeks after leaving my parents' place and heading to the US (which would later become home), one of our dogs had to be rushed to the vet and on the operating table, the...

Re: Where / how do forms get routed?

I live in New York, and my documents originally got sent to Texas Service Center. After a small delay, I got receipts back from the Lincoln, Nebraska center instead. So yes, it seems that if they're...

Re: UK graduate with a strong ambition to move...

I moved from the UK to the USA via the EB-1A route. It's probably the hardest visa to get - but gets you a green card (permanent residency) from the start, and skips the employer sponsorship and...

Re: Moving to NYC - Rental help

When I first moved to NY, I lived in an AirBNB for a while to delay this problem. When I got my first "proper" apartment, I found a building that accepted Insurgent - they act as a guarantor for...

Re: How likely is green card/perm. citizenship for Electronic/Hardware Engineer?

By all means pursue that opportunity with Google, but personally I wouldn’t lean on company sponsorship too much. If the company really wants you, they’ll go through the process, but of course you’re...

Re: Thank you - I now have an EB1a

Unusually enough, exactly one year - 365 days. The i-140 approval came in January which was the biggest relief, after that it was just a matter of time. I got one RFE related to birth certificate,...

Thank you - I now have an EB1a

Thank you British Expats for offering words of wisdom throughout this process! One year after we filed it, the I-485 associated with my EB1A green card was approved (a few months after the I-140...
