Re: Has anyone moved to Oz with kids without visiting first...?

If you can't afford a visit, you are probably going to struggle to pay for a move and resettlement - think £50k+ down the drain for visas, flights, sending stuff, restocking stuff, settling in,...

Re: Escalator etiquette

In Canberra it's stand on the left and walk on the right (or so my granddaughters tell me when I did it the Underground way). Of course if you are heading for the Tube, definitely stand right walk...

Re: Interim Medicare card

You'd know if your 804 was confirmed. I thought you'd have had a few more hoops to jump through - medicals etc - before you get notice that you've become permanent. Checking at the processing dates...

Re: Interim Medicare card

If you have an 804 visa that's permanent. Do you mean that you have applied for an 804 and are bridging onto it? In which case you have the conditions of the visa you arrived on which was probably...

Re: A single mother with 2 kids -moving to sydney

Perth isn't in NSW and you will have agreed to reside in NSW for at least 2 years (as you were heading for Sydney, I assume you were sponsored by NSW) - you can move on after that. You can check out...

Re: British Passport Renewal

IIRC when I renewed in 2019 I told them I had an Australian one, gave them the number but told them I needed it to travel so sent neither it nor a copy.

Re: A single mother with 2 kids -moving to sydney

For piano teachers????
Might be OK salaries for the high flying corporate types but I doubt a piano teacher is going to take in even $100k pa. Maybe there is another skill set which will make more....

Re: British Passport Renewal

But why do you need your old passport when you have your new one? Sure I've got all my old ones but never needed to use them once the new ones arrive - and with their corners cut off they're no use...

Re: Will we get a visa?

Best thing would be to get advice from a registered agent. Your partner might be able to apply with his skills if he has acceptable qualifications. But he’s right, a PR visa is much preferred over a...

Re: Family of 5 with a 4 year plan :)

I’d agree with the others. £10k is very low - it cost the two of us easily that back in March 2020 and we didn’t have to pay for visas as already citizens, didn’t have to pay rent as we were moving...

Re: Am I being selfish?

Marriage counselling - get it out there with an impartial third party so he can hear what you are saying. Then, if you decide to move together then that's a win otherwise you have to decide whether...

Re: Applied for Citizenship in Nov 2020, still waiting!!!

You need to get a Return Residents Visa because the travel component of your original visa will have expired.

Re: advice needed on construction work in sydney

Are you a tradie? You'll need a whole bunch of local certification if you are, and that can take some time. I agree with Polly, most companies are going to prefer people who are onshore already.

Re: UK Registered Psychologists

It is. Dealing with AHPRA can be wrist slitting territory. It's basically a start again process but if you've got your PhD or masters with lots of clinical experience you should be OK. I've not done...

Re: Moving to Australia with an Autistic child

The original post is a year old so the OP may or may not have got a visa by now.
If your child has autism to a degree that requires ongoing and intensive support in education then, yes, they could...

Re: Relocating on 482 TSS

$187 a fortnight from memory. Top cover, admittedly (and we are an old couple but no age related penalty) and extras.

Just another thought about education - people on temporary visas arent...

Re: Relocating on 482 TSS

Also, bear in mind that the partner on a temporary visa often has considerable difficulty finding a career based job because employers doing really want to train up someone who is likely to leave at...

Re: Looking for help and advice

Best way forward is to talk to a registered agent but you're not likely to get much good news for permanent residence as you are almost at the cut off point and you will have lost points because of...

Re: Sydney with kids - fly or drive?

Catch the bus or the train - much better for the blood pressure! I tend to take Greyhound from Canberra and it's a doddle. I wish we had a half decent train service because that would be my...

Re: Sydney with kids - fly or drive?

Had quite a few Sydney breaks over the years and rarely, if ever, drove up (only 3 hours) and never had a problem getting around to the places we needed to go. We tended to stay somewhere central...

Re: Moving to Australia, but leaving behind my son

LOL, AZ isnt Australia, it's Arizona! A lot of Poms do call it OZ but Australians don't - Aus, perhaps, but generally Australia.

Your younger son, depending on when he turns 16 will need to be in...
