Re: smoking laws : good or bad?

Interesting one this - I used to run pubs in the UK and do the same here in NZ now, and I smoke. I reckon it's great that pubs are no smoking here, and a few of my mates in the UK, who are running...

Re: Why migrate from England?

I just fancied a change, and NZ was easy to get into. We made the decision over a bottle of vodka one night, and that was it, no real reason to bail on the UK, just itchy feet.

Didn't really do...

Re: What do people drive!!!

Your insurance company will cover you if someone hits your car, and go after the other driver for the repair cost. They always go after the other driver, without fail. Only problem is, you have to...

Re: What do people drive!!!

Agreed, with the small exception that people do love to take the p1ss out of people that drive flash cars - porkers especially.

Re: What do people drive!!!

I drove my Delica on a dirt track round lake coleridge yesterday, got at least two feet of air under the front wheels

The whole centre console is held on with duck tape and self...

Re: What do people drive!!!

Yeah, and it applies to the nob who designed the 2.8 turbo diesel that they put in them. Should have given it quick release bolts, they have to be sawpped over so much.

I'd love to take your...

Re: What do people drive!!!

Mitsi Delica. It can drive over the top of a lowered Skoda, and squash it flat ;)

It's covered in mud from the Waimak River, which is a cunning way to disguise it, so the fish can't see it, when...

Re: Anyone in Rangiora or Kaiapoi?

That's just so not true.

We live in a lovely warm 1930's villa.

Total cost to insulate the house, with ECAN grants, was under $5,000 (admittedly, I did the floors myself, took about 4 days of...

Re: Where to Live???

They're not that rough, you always know when you're in the dodgier bits, because all the bus stops have got "East Side" sprayed on them ;)

Re: Finance Question

Opening a bank account is easy, just go in there and do it.

Getting a mortgage, you'll probably need a job offer letter for.

Sticking a car on finance is simple, as soon as you have an address...

Re: Anyone in Rangiora or Kaiapoi?

Have you looked at the other side of the city on the peninsula? A bit more expensive than Rangiora/Kaiapoi, but zoned for a good high school, and stunning views. It has all the things you want, and...

Re: Anyone in Rangiora or Kaiapoi?

Re: Anyone in Rangiora or Kaiapoi?

It does depend on where your job is to a large extent, I wouldn't want to commute into the CBD from Rangiora every day - the traffic can be a drag, same as trying to go from somewhere like Sockburn...

Re: how long will we need to rent

You don't need to be a resident to buy a house, but you probably do to get a mortgage.

Renting for a while isn't a bad idea anyway, make sure you like the area, if you buy and have to sell again,...

Re: Xtra broadband is rubbish

Bottom line with xtra is that they are generally a lot slower than some other providers, and the plans they put you on. They do some sneaky traffic management, and are just plain slow. There was...
