Re: Importing stuff from across the border

I'm not worrying about paying the taxes, the discounts I get buying from US retailers still outweigh buying the items here, which i'd have to pay HST if I did that anyways. So if the worst is they...

Re: I'm a Canadian citizen freelancer wanting take contracts from UK co's. Doabl

Not entirely similar but I am a sole trader as well and my main contract is a US company. I don't charge them HST and don't have an issue with CRA on this. You should have no issues doing as you've...

Re: UK Passport Renewal - Digital Photo Code in Canada?

2 months is impressive? People used to get them back in 2-3 weeks.

Re: Immigrating to Canada with new items?

I would take everything out of its packaging and use it in your current UK home before moving over, even if for a short period of time. Then have the removal company disassemble and transport it to...

Re: Delay Oath ceremony as need passport to travel?

IMO its worth the hassle/headache to have him fly to Canada (as even though the ceremony is virtual, IIRC, you have to be physically present in Canada to do the oath), do his ceremony, then go to a...

Re: British citizen leaving Canada after COVID infection

With the public attitude having shifted regarding covid, meaning most jurisdictions are not saying you have to isolate at all when positive, I would keep existing travel tickets and fly with a well...

Re: passport: going into the UK

Who told you that? The CBSA officer? If so, they were misinformed (https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/covid-vaccinated-travellers-entering-canada).

As per gov of Canada:

Re: passport: going into the UK

Does anyone have a source on the "last shot within 12 months of entering Canada"? Last time I travelled it was 2 doses, no time limit. I don't ever remember reading anything in the news or on the...

Re: Driving friends car in England

This, IMO, is the biggest thing. At the end of the day, insurance companies, police, etc are going to nickle and dime you for everything, you can't trust them. Just get what you need to have in place...

Re: Driving friends car in England

I'm not arguing that an IDP is a magic bullet...just know it has been required in some countries and by some insurers. I don't think the average insurance agent you get on the phone knows the rules...

Re: Driving friends car in England

I've always found this issue with UK insurance very peculiar that they don't allow for this.

In Canada, the vehicle is insured, and most insurers will cover a visitor with foreign license...

Re: Keep British passport as well, or just Canadian?

IMO better to have and not need then need and not have. Always keep both valid, use Canadian in Canada/US and UK in GB/Europe. For the cost of 10 pound a year is it really worth fussing?

Re: Anyone still feel like an outsider?

Surely inflation isn't helping either. The price of petrol here is insanity, a single bag of groceries cost $100, the cost of everything is going up up up.

When I was back in Europe last month the...

Re: Anyone connected through Toronto Pearson Recently?

Re: Anyone still feel like an outsider?

Sure, it's easier to get by on a surface level in Canada with small talk and casual conversation, but it is alot harder to build friendships as an adult - even for someone who's grown up here and...
