Re: Pension Lifetime Allowance and NT tax code

Thank you. I should have mentioned that I am aware of the discussions in this forum and that is why I posted the HMRC position.

Re: Pension Lifetime Allowance and NT tax code

Well, zero response to this topic. However, in case anyone is interested in the answer, I called HMRC and the answer is that the NT code does NOT protect against the extra taxes.

On another...

Pension Lifetime Allowance and NT tax code

I am US resident and have an NT (no tax) code for withdrawals from my UK personal pension. I am likely to exceed my Lifetime Allowance. Does the NT code protect me from paying the UK taxes on the...

Re: UK Pension incl Lump Sum

It does. The only issue is that TT would not allow me to leave the zip code field for my UK pension provider empty, so I entered 99999. The income ends up on line 16a.

Re: WEP and the SSA

Has this been established conclusively? I have seen you and others state that you believe this is how it should work, on more than one forum, but at that time nobody had any evidence that the IRS...

Re: Banking - Paid in £ but living in US

A follow-up to post 49: XE did refund me $15 to cover the wire fee. They paid me by wire, so at least they worked out they had to send me $30 to cover the additional $15 on this wire.

Re: Banking - Paid in £ but living in US

You used to be able to choose. Their web site has changed significantly since I last did a transfer. I just took another one all the way up to final confirmation (which I did not do) and at no time...

Re: Banking - Paid in £ but living in US

I have used XE for years. I did a transfer a few days ago and noticed that their UK bank details had changed. When the money arrived in my US bank account, I was charged an incoming wire fee of $15....

Re: Anyone doing pension drawdown?

You have made me wonder if I have used the right terminology. What I am doing was not available until the recent pension reforms.

Anyone doing pension drawdown?

I have started taking periodic drawdowns from my SIPP. It has been postulated both on this and other forums that this process might allow the 25% tax free portion to be untaxed by the IRS. I am not...

Re: Form 8802 process

An update: I received my NT coding today. As I filled in the forms on April 29, the process took a little over 5 months.

It did not matter that I applied without having received any pension...

Re: Form 8802 process

I am not particularly "worried". I would just prefer to be able to track the process as my preference is to start drawing my UK pension as soon as the tax position is resolved. It will probably be...

Re: Form 8802 process

The IRS cashed my check and it is just coming up to 45 days since then. That is why I am wondering if I will find out whether they have processed the form or not.

Form 8802 process

I have recently submitted Form 8802, with US Individual 2002, to the IRS and am wondering a) if I did it right, and b) what happens next.

Based on another thread I have just seen, I may have...

Re: English food in the USA mostly Sausages

Each to their own, but I like the Kroger Beer Brats better than the name brands. And cooked on the grill - I have come across people boiling brats, and they are disgusting.

Re: Transferring inheritance from the UK

There is no Federal inheritance tax. The Federal estate tax is imposed on the estate, so that will not affect a UK estate.

A few states impose an inheritance tax (tax on the recipient), but...

Re: Auto Insurance help - another one of those threads!

I have been with Allstate for about 6 years and been happy with them, but I have never made a claim. However, I may move to Geico because their quote is several hundred dollars a year cheaper (for...

Re: Healthcare and costs

Because it doesn't give you much coverage.

Exactly - it sucks even though you didn't need particularly major treatment. As I keep saying, I am not saying do not take dental insurance; I am saying...

Re: Healthcare and costs

I count this as minor stuff. Start costing out crowns, root canals, bridges and, gulp, implants. One root canal and crown can cost $1,500+ and your insurance paying probably half of that. Implants...

Re: Healthcare and costs

I know you are mostly focused on health insurance, but be aware that dental insurance is usually exactly what insurance should NOT be. It will reimburse you for stuff that you can probably easily...

Don't bother about other airports, even though there is a small one at Auburn - no idea if there are commercial flights. Atlanta airport is to the southwest of Atlanta, making it only 1.5 hours from...
