Re: Relocation packages

I recently turned down an expat package as my company wanted to convert me from local to expat hire (how messed up is that). Terrible idea, I’d then have to take a larger house and less pay. No...

Re: Relocation packages

lol

Funny - I thought the featherbed package was dead... but I've been approached recently for a couple of things in AD (one looks borning, the interesting is not likely to be a fit) but they...

Re: The unhappiest age - 47?

Sounds good - set your self positive goals (i.e. I will do this, etc) rather than negative ones (I will stop this).

Re: The unhappiest age - 47?

Nah, it's not all doom Scamp.

I'm 42 this year, and so a few years away from peak unhappiness, but I'm on track for a happy 47. My first child will be 18 and going to Uni, and the second will be...

Re: B-DAY

I predict that there will be a massive investment in new power generation, renewable and otherwise, to meet the rising demand caused by the influx of high-powered hoovers. Loads of jobs all around.

Re: Alcohol and Middle East

I returned it to my neighbour's front door. He had to climb over all his rubbish to get out of his house. I told him (and security) it was me that did it, and that I would continue to do so until...

Re: Alcohol and Middle East

Oh for sure, and their crap Yaris confirms that. That, however, is not my problem but my dog eating their discarded undercrackers is.

Re: Alcohol and Middle East

We keep finding cans of butane, condoms and pants full of shit where I walk my dog. I knew what half of all of this is all about and after some googling have discovered that solvent abuse can also...

Re: Iran - You leaving or staying?

Probably right, now both sides can come to the table to negotiate something. Or the war picks up and is played out in Iraq (previously Lebanon, Syria) - the world will move on as no one really cares.

Re: Iran - You leaving or staying?

I’d imagine the hotels will take advantage and all the roads will be busy. I have a decent off roader that I know how to drive, and a tent. Should be able to last 14hours until the water and...

Re: Secondment to the UAE/Ruwais

Also, what you're forgetting is that you need to be out of the UK for a full April-April tax year to be tax-free.

From what I can see, your company has underbid it and you'd need the best part of...

Re: Iran - You leaving or staying?

You guys all lack imagination. I'll be heading to the al hoota cave - there is water down there and the blind fish to eat.

Re: Secondment to the UAE/Ruwais

Awful : controlling, paranoid, ass-covering, political, rule-following, non-innovating, hangers-on.

As I said, not all expats here look, or think like you. This is why people want 30-50k a month...

Is this the same high-up friend that tells you every year that SK is dead, and it will be announced during the last ten days of Ramadan?

Re: Secondment to the UAE/Ruwais

I've been to the Jebel Dhanna, I stopped there for a drink and rest after a long drive back to AD. Considered staying the night to be fresh for the drive until I saw the price. I enjoyed my coke on...

Re: Me and My Family

When my ex-wife and I split up, I wrote everything down about how I felt, how we had got to that point etc. Ten pages of typed a4 - all truths, no blaming, lots of love, self-doubt and apology etc....
