Re: Long Service Leave.

Hey Ozzie and Pollyanna - I haven't much to do with Ballarat or Bendigo - having only ever passed through - nice cities I think - there is a charm about Victorian centres...

Re: How "Australian" do you feel.

I was figuring that jobkeeper paid to kids who barely needed it would see them all save for cars.

I still can't justify 40k+ for a new car and I'm in mid-size SUV land these days minimum - and...

Re: Is Australia still the land of milk and honey?

I am impressed with Mr T: it has taken me years to realise he might not be a native English speaker all this time.
(PS I do know I've been off for a few years.....)

Re: Some Queensland coast climate advice please

I confess to noticing how humid Sydney is compared to Melbourne. So it will be interesting to venture back to a QLD summer one day. Haven't managed it in 16 years though!

Re: How "Australian" do you feel.

Plenty of people finance cars here to get a newish car for reliability, safety and looks. To be fair, the trend for mid-size SUVs is also practical, but you got a lot in the boot of a Commodore or...

Re: BE - being woke - what triggers us?

Re: How "Australian" do you feel.

Good observation. You don't want to sink cash into a depreciating asset...

I also find the DiY thing cute - money spent on cute patios - when a deck here is just 1 piece of the pie. That said, the...

Re: Some Queensland coast climate advice please

Most of QLD is humid and sticky in high summer.
You get around it by staying indoors in the heat in AC during the worst - and getting up sooner and going to bed later - in that AC.

You also...

BE - being woke - what triggers us?

Years ago, here on BE, there was a lot more fisticuffs but I see in more recent years it's been 5 blokes arguing - 1 in particular.

WiIth BLM, woke, in the "post- Me too" era - do we all have an...

Re: How "Australian" do you feel.

Years ago, on this forum, you would have been taken to task for saying that by the UK lovers/ Au haters... the English do complain about their place in the world and have done for decades.
In...

Re: Melbourne Metro restrictions

He's blinkered on a model he has been given - a model that purports that having being brought down cases to 'x' you can then trickle along...and keep cases at 'y'.

This does mean using masks etc.

Re: Melbourne Metro restrictions

The lockdown is not extended - we're tracking along a sequence of milestones that have been known since August. The 28 Sep milestone was always a bit - "lite" on, and Dan threw us a few bones - eg 2...

Re: Australian accents

it's fair to say that American-English has a large influence on English-speaking countries.

Australians on TV from the 70s and 80s sound a lot more RP - and there is a modern day equivalent still...

It really showed the socio-economic side to this.

Great points, agreed. It was a road map : classic management of expectations.
Now regional going 2 stages makes him look like he is capable...

Re: Melbourne Metro restrictions

I'm lucky Beoz - we have miles of bush to walk around in starting from our house and a beautiful tree-lined avenue to walk along and a sense we are outside with views across the hills. I feel sorry...

You can't eliminate - and his targets are ridiculous. Most places in the world including NSW don't have those numbers and they are not in lockdown.
Does he think we are going to bounce around from...

Ok.. what do people think Dan has in store for metro? Back to Stage 3?
I want to see a stage 2.5 hybrid with masks and bags of common sense
I am mostly concerned about being stuck in Metro...

When we go to DST I have an extra hr before a client or partner is snapping...
