Re: Working in a UK IT job remotely from Canada

No apologies necessary. I wouldn't be working on the west coast so it would most likely be a 5am start.

I don't particularly want to do it tbh. I've been working from home for most of this year...

Re: Working in a UK IT job remotely from Canada

Thanks, much appreciated. I'm hoping it won't come to this tbh since I would honestly prefer just to do a normal job for a local company in Canada and not have to worry about tax complications etc....

Re: Working in a UK IT job remotely from Canada

My job is in demand on the Canadian market and I'm already a landed PR so there shouldn't be any difference between hiring me and hiring a local, especially since most people are currently working...

Working in a UK IT job remotely from Canada

I need to return to Canada at some point in the near future in order to comply with my RO and recently put myself back onto the job market. I've applied for a few jobs in Canada and the response has...

Re: Quarantine for COVID 19 discussions.

Yes but those were largely people who probably would have died soon enough anyway be it from a seasonal flu or some other ailment. IMHO the Swedish approach was the right one however I wouldn't...

Re: Quarantine for COVID 19 discussions.

Yes but if you take an objective view, look at Sweden. After being mocked by much of the world, they're now going into the autumn and winter looking far better than most. The UK could have been in a...

Re: Quarantine for COVID 19 discussions.

I would describe the measures taken in Australia to be quite authoritarian but then I don't consider Australia to be a free country under normal circumstances anyway. Canada's measures aren't...

Re: Quarantine for COVID 19 discussions.

They won't. They're not going to stop you from doing anything. This isn't 1984 and they don't have a constant camera on you or the means to monitor your movements. You might get the occasional email...

Re: Physical presence calculation in Canada about to expire :(

No, you must spend at least 730 days inside Canada. You can spend up to 1095 outside it in the same 5 years. It sounds like you're compliant by 100 days though which is basically 3 months so you...

Re: Physical presence calculation in Canada about to expire :(

OK. Did you just leave Canada once and then return or have you travelled outside Canada and returned somewhat regularly. My understanding regarding that section is that it's for including times you...

Re: Physical presence calculation in Canada about to expire :(

You don't need a police certificate for PR card renewal.

The problem with printing multiple copies of page 2 is that the form uses a formula to calculate total days out of the numbers you enter...

Re: Looking to cost out shipping a 20’ container from Ontario to UK

I've seen on another forum that people who applied in January and February have been receiving their citizenship this month. The main problem atm so far as I can tell is the backlog of people waiting...

Re: Physical presence calculation in Canada about to expire :(

There's a space on the PR card form to include time spent out of Canada. If you list every absence in there then it will calculate the total days for you. As PMM suggested, it's your job to keep...

Re: Looking to cost out shipping a 20’ container from Ontario to UK

You need 2 years of residence in Canada out of every 5 year period indefinitely. That requirement never expires. The only way to avoid it is to naturalise.

Re: PRTD help please

You can leave the SIN field blank. Its purpose is to check with the CRA whether or not you have been paying taxes. You can include an LoE explaining why you have left it blank if you want. If you did...

Re: Post EU Referendum...Part II

Re: Quarantine for COVID 19 discussions.

I don't know tbh, it was several years ago now during 1 night layover in Moscow. I recall it being a pain in the arse because the hotel had to sponsor it and only the expensive ones were willing to...

Re: Quarantine for COVID 19 discussions.

That's a landing tax that has always been there since I-94w was invented. If you book an international flight to the US then it's paid for by part of the airline ticket fee.

Re: Quarantine for COVID 19 discussions.

My Russian visa was done online but the Ruskies tend to make it up as they go along from what I've seen.

Re: Quarantine for COVID 19 discussions.

eTA's aren't visas. They're travel authorisations. They're essentially a way to alleviate pressure on the airlines and government resources by preventing potentially inadmissible people from boarding...

Re: Quarantine for COVID 19 discussions.

That's still a visa though. Australia has a blanket visa policy for non-citizens and always has AFAIK. The New Zealand one is a more recent addition.

EU nationals get Australian e-visas free of...

I've always thought that's exactly what it is. I've only ever had to apply for tourist visas when I've been to countries with whom Britain is on less than friendly or reciprocal terms e.g. Russia and...

Re: Quarantine for COVID 19 discussions.

Those are all well and good and you can make a nice vacation out of it, assuming you have the money to do so. The only problem there is, unless you know people locally who can bring you stuff, then...
