Re: Conflicted

If you're not planning on moving for a couple of years then yes, time is certainly on your side. House prices around us (Vancouver Island) have certainly gone up substantially in the last 18 months....

Re: Conflicted

Do you have visas in place? I’m curious about the time line these days. What professions are you in that keep you on the west coast?

Re: Canada is a scam

I wonder what went wrong? My impression is most people here seem to quite like it. I like it very much. Have the Canadians been beastly to you?

Re: RichMitch's questions about cost of living

No more ice cream for me! We sold up about 5 years ago! I suppose we could have used ice cream for brain freeze, but that would have been about it. My wife and I both saw sense and went back to our...

Re: RichMitch's questions about cost of living

Are you hoping to secure an LMIA and temporary work permit or PR? If so, what is your CRS score? I only ask because if this is the case, planning to move over here by spring 2022 seem pretty...

Re: RichMitch's questions about cost of living

There's no doubt in my mind that our cost of living is lower now than it was, relatively speaking, when we lived in the UK.

Re: RichMitch's questions about cost of living

I think part of the comparison depends on where you came from in the UK. We moved from Richmond, SW London (ish) and the housing prices even 12 years ago were very high. We were able to buy a...

Re: Shipping options

At the risk of opening a whole can of worms that frankly has no relevance to me any more, when we moved over from the UK to Canada nearly 11 years ago, I think it cost us approximately 7,800 GBP for...

Re: Maintaining UK Credit History whilst in Canada

We had to give up all bar our HSBC UK credit cards. Seemed it was policy for Barclaycard and MasterCard to only allow cards to work from the country of residence

Re: Trying via the Start Up Visa Program

That’s actually pretty good in my opinion. If you’re moving to a new country and establishing a business from scratch, having the support and guidance of experienced Canadian business mentors would...

Re: Trying via the Start Up Visa Program

why don't more people go down this route? It seems, quick and with few strings attached. Are there financial conditions attached that I'm missing?

Re: Trying via the Start Up Visa Program

Is there a fee for the incubator support? I took a quick look at the information on the link you posted and it seemed to be a rather protracted process. What I couldn't work out is what are the...

Re: Trying via the Start Up Visa Program

If it only takes 3 weeks for a TWP then that sounds like by far the fastest route; never heard of that, but then why would I? What is your start-up/self employed profession? Does it have a bearing on...

Re: Trying via the Start Up Visa Program

How long does it take to apply for a startup visa? With COVID, I cant imagine it is as short as a month or two.

Re: Just sold our property and returning to the UK - International shippers?

Being in Mill Bay myself, I actually quite enjoy the relative bustle of downtown Victoria. I probably come down once a week for a fix of street lighting and pavements! But I must admit it’s nice to...

Re: Intro - Moving my family this Summer

By virtue of where you were born, you have happily overcome the biggest hurdle most people have to face - the right to live and work in Canada wherever, whenever and at whatever. So many people come...

Re: Moving to BC as an artist

Cowichan Valley means “warmlands” in native language. We have a spectacular climate, with little snow, fairly mild winters, reasonable summers, and I think half the rainfall of Vancouver (again,...

Re: Moving to BC as an artist

I think I’m right in saying Chemainus is north of the valley. Duncan has a handful of galleries. Cowichan Bay has galleries, pottery and sculpture. Duncan also has 60 - 70 totem poles (something like...

Re: Running UK Ltd Company, receiving UK salary&dividend while living in Canada

You wouldn't have to pay double tax; one can be offset against the other. Inevitably, the bigger question will be your eligibility to remain in Canada. What sort of visa would you be intending to...

Re: Anyone from around Duncan BC?

We live in Mill Bay just to the sought of Duncan. We’ve been here about 10 years. There is a pretty significant British contingent around here but I’d say the majority of us are somewhat older than...
