Wait, I remember your nick! I can hardly believe it's been that long. I've been quite busy with work and all, but I see...

Re: Money or Easier life in the Sun ?

I admit I haven't read the whole thread, but I just wanted to comment on the "50 hour" workweek of the original poster. Don't assume in Spain the workweek is any shorter!

Because of the crazy...

Re: Salary Expectations / Cost of Living Barcelona

I've been living in BCN for two years now. I think your salary, considering the bonus, will be enough for two without being too tight. You can still go to the restaurant once a week and join a gym,...

Re: Salary Expectations / Cost of Living Barcelona

Barca is the team, the city is Barna or BCN ;)
how old are you? do you have kids? if you are single, rent + food + bills + transportation should be around 1100 - 1300 euros/month.

Re: Salary Expectations / Cost of Living Barcelona

ps. if a comparable job in London would pay 35k sterlings, I'd say 35k Euros is a decent figure for Barcelona. Normally the gap is bigger. You'll be somewhat better off financially in BCN.

Of...

Re: Salary Expectations / Cost of Living Barcelona

ok, I was calculating on a 12 month basis. 1,750 for 14 months (actually the 13th and 14th will be a bit less) are roughly equivalent to 2,000 for 12 months. Sadly this is considered a good salary...

Re: Salary Expectations / Cost of Living Barcelona

35,000 annual gross in Spain should be more than 1,750 monthly net, and probably around 2,000. I live in Barcelona, the rents are more or less as Keith says. With 750 you can get a small apartment...

Re: OK you property experts ........

I personally think it's extremely risky to buy in Spain right now. OECD just released a report stating that the housing market is 30% overvalued. BBVA also released it's annual report which predicts...

Re: Primary/Secondary schools in Barcelona

Public schools are 90% Catalan, it's called "linguistic immersion". Now the central government wants to increase the hours of Spanish from 2 to 3 per week, but the Catalan politicians are making a...

Re: Health/operations for children

I don't know about dental, but if your daughter is covered by the UK national service, she should be able to get free urgent care in Spain. There is a EU-wide health card that allows to do that, you...

6. When you are stuck in a queue, honk the horn for minutes even if the queue is nobody's fault or is caused by an ambulance picking up an ill person (seen that in Barcelona).
7. when you pick up a...

Dave, I don't want to be negative but you should be aware that currently spaniards are living with their parents until age 35 because of the high cost of housing and low salaries. This is in the...
